Dark Places follows Libby Day, the sole survivor of the horrific massacre in the fictional rural town of Kinnakee, Kansas. Years after testifying that her teen brother was responsible for the murders of her sisters and mother, Libby is still hunted by the ghosts from her past.
Desperate for money, she agrees to meet a duo of true crime “detectives”, who believe her brother is innocent. She agrees to visit him in prison in an attempt to learn his secrets, but her search for evidence leads her right back where she started—on the run from a killer.
Flynn will be involved in this adaptation as co-creator, writer, and co-showrunner, alongside Brett Johnson. Guerrin Gardner will also join them as co-creator and writer.
This isn’t the first attempt to put a cinematic twist on Dark Places —Flynn’s second novel previously produced Gilles Paquet-Brenner’s adaptation from 2015, starring Charlize Theron, Christina Hendricks, Nicholas Hoult, and Chloë Grace Moretz.
