The post 2022 Academy Awards: “CODA” and “Dune” Top the List of Winners appeared first on OMG Check It Out !.
]]>The race for best picture was uncreditable until the very last moment, but CODA managed to beat the likes of The Power of the Dog and Belfast to win the biggest award of the night. It made history as the first straight-to-streaming film and the first film with a predominately deaf cast in leading roles to ever win this award.
Denis Villeneuve’s Dune topped the list of winners with a total of six awards, mostly in technical categories. CODA was right behind with three, including best supporting actor (Troy Kotsur) and best adapted screenplay (Sian Heder). Despite topping the list of nominations with twelve nods, The Power of the Dog only picked up one award—best director for Jane Campion.
Kotsur was in pretty good company in the acting categories, where all of the prizes went to major front-runners: best actor Will Smith (King Richard), best actress Jessica Chastain (The Eyes of Tammy Faye), and best supporting actress Ariana DeBose (West Side Story).
The 94th Academy Awards took place on March 27 with Regina Hall, Amy Schumer, and Wanda Sykes hosting the festivities.

]]>The Power of the Dog was running against Belfast, Dune, Don’t Look Up, and Licorice Pizza in the best film category, but it managed to beat tough competition to pick up this trophy. Campion was named the best director, becoming the third woman to ever collect this award.
Dune came into the ceremony with high expectations, after topping the list of nominees with 11 nods. It managed to win five of these awards—best cinematography, production design, special visual effects, sound, and original score.
The acting categories brought one of the biggest surprises of the night our way, with underdog Joanna Scanlan picking up the award for best actress with After Love. The rest of the winners were easier to predict—Will Smith (King Richard) was named best actor, while Troy Kotsur (CODA) and Ariana DeBose (West Side Story) dominated supporting categories.
The 75th British Academy Film Awards took place on March 13th at the Royal Albert Hall in London, with Rebel Wilson hosting the ceremony.
