Francesca Orsi, HBO’s head of drama, confirmed the show’s renewal in an official statement and said they couldn’t be more thrilled to watch the story of House Targaryen burn bright for another season.
“We are in awe of the dragon-sized effort the entire team has put into the creation of a spectacular season two, with a scope and scale that is only rivaled by its heart,” said Orsi in a statement.
Set around two centuries before Game of Thrones, this prequel series chronicles the darkest days of House Targaryen. As the seasons go by, we’ll get to see them lose control of the Iron Throne as the harrowing war of succession known as the Dance of the Dragons wages on.
Emma D’Arcy and Olivia Cooke lead the ensemble cast of this epic fantasy drama, which also includes Matt Smith, Rhys Ifans, Steve Toussaint, Eve Best, Fabien Frankel, Matthew Needham, Sonoya Mizuno, Tom Glynn-Carney, and Ewan Mitchell.
Season 3 renewal was announced just days before House of the Dragon returned to HBO for its second season on June 16.
