Shōgun came into this year’s Emmys with a total of 25 nods, including eight in the major categories. It collected 14 awards at the Creative Arts Emmy Awards a week prior, breaking the record previously held by John Adams, before winning four more awards at the main event for a total of 18.
Shōgun defeated The Crown, Fallout, The Gilded Age, The Morning Show, Mr. & Mrs. Smith, Slow Horses, and 3 Body Problem to be named the outstanding drama series. Its leading duo Hiroyuki Sanada and Anna Sawai won acting awards for their respective performances, while Frederick E. O. Toye collected the trophy for best directing for a drama series.
When it comes to the comedy field, it was a tight race between The Bear and Hacks. The Bear managed to win four awards for 11 overall – most wins for a comedy series in a single year – but it lost the coveted outstanding comedy series award to Hacks.
Netflix’s limited series Baby Reindeer also walked away with four major awards, including outstanding limited or anthology series, outstanding writing, plus acting awards for its main duo Richard Gadd and Jessica Gunning.
The 2024 Primetime Emmy Awards took place at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles on September 15, with Eugene Levy and Dan Levy hosting the show.

]]>John’s Disney+ special won the award for outstanding variety special at the Primetime Emmys on Monday night, beating the likes of the most recent Oscars and Tony Awards shows, Rihanna’s Super Bowl LVII Halftime Show, and Chris Rock: Selective Outrage.
This victory finally helped John win one award that had been eluding him for years and officially become the EGOT winner. He’s also the recipient of five Grammy awards, two best original song Oscars for “Can You Feel the Love Tonight” from The Lion King and “(I’m Gonna) Love Me Again” from Rocketman, and one Tony for the best original score for Aida.
John wasn’t present at the ceremony, but he acknowledged this historic honor in an official statement.
“I am incredibly humbled to be joining the unbelievably talented group of EGOT winners tonight. The journey to this moment has been filled with passion, dedication, and the unwavering support of my fans all around the world,” said John in a press release.

The Television Academy chair Frank Scherma described Anderson as a multi-talented performer and a great friend of the Academy, and added they’re “thrilled that he is hosting what promises to be a rich celebration of the year’s outstanding television, as well as 75 years of Emmys excellence.”
Anderson said he can’t wait to be part of the biggest night in television, and he’ll certainly feel right at home on the Emmys stage. Anderson scored 11 nominations as star and executive producer of the ABC sitcom Black-ish, which ended its run last year. He went on to star in Kenya Barris’s comedy You People and will soon host the game show We Are Family.
After a major delay in the face of dual strikes in Hollywood, the 75th Primetime Emmy Awards are scheduled to take place on January 15, 2024. The final season of HBO’s Succession will come into the night with 14 nominations, closely followed by The White Lotus with 12.
]]>
Emmy voters were most impressed by the final season of Succession, which scored a total of 27 nods, including 14 in the main categories. The Last of Us is right behind with 24, but only five in the main field. As for The White Lotus, Mike White’s hit series scored 23 nominations, including 12 in the major categories, led by multiple nods for its ensemble cast.
All three shows will compete for the title of best drama this year, where the competition also includes Disney’ Andor, AMC’s Better Call Saul, Netflix’s The Crown, HBO’s House of the Dragon, and Showtime’s Yellowjackets.
The comedy field is equally packed with amazing shows, starting with Ted Lasso, with a total of 21 nods, including the best comedy. The list of contenders for this accolade also includes Abbot Elementary, Barry, The Bear, Jury Duty, Wednesday, Only Murders in the Building, and The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel.
Netflix’s Beef emerged as the most nominated outstanding limited or anthology series, and it will have to beat tough competition in Daisy Jones & The Six, Fleishman Is in Trouble, Dahmer – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story, and Obi-Wan Kenobi.
The 75th Primetime Emmy Awards are set to return on September 18, but the date could’ve been changed in the face of the ongoing WGA strike.

Succession will be in the running for 12 awards at the Primetime Emmys and an additional 13 at the Creative Arts Emmy Awards. It’s one of the contenders for the outstanding drama award, but the field also includes Better Call Saul, Euphoria, Ozark, Severance, Stranger Things, Squid Game, and Yellowjackets.
Ted Lasso is leading the way in the comedy field with a total of 10 nods in the main field and ten more for Creative Arts Emmys. Hacks and Only Murders in the Building are close behind with a total of 17 nods, and they’ll be competing for the best comedy series trophy, alongside Barry, Abbott Elementary, The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, Curb Your Enthusiasm, and What We Do in the Shadows.
As for limited series categories, it will be a close call between The White Lotus and Dopesick come Emmys night. Dopesick didn’t get as many technical nods, but it’s just two nominations behind The White Louts in the main field, with nine nods for main awards.
The 74th Primetime Emmy Awards will take place on September 12 at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles, and the host is yet to be announced.

]]>The Crown pulled quite an upset by picking up trophies in all the categories it was running. Its stars Josh O’Connor, Olivia Colman, Tobias Menzies, and Gillian Anderson collected acting awards in their respective categories, while the show itself won awards for outstanding drama series, outstanding directing, and outstanding writing for a drama series.
Ted Lasso also had an impressive showing in the comedy field and won the award for outstanding comedy series. Its stars Jason Sudeikis, Hannah Waddingham, and Brett Goldstein were awarded acting Emmys for their performances on the show. HBO Max series Hacks was right behind with three awards, including the outstanding lead actress in a comedy series for Jean Smart.
Mare of Easttown was the big winner of the night when it comes to limited series, and its stars Kate Winslet, Evan Peters, and Julianne Nicholson walked away with acting awards. This series, however, missed out on the award for outstanding limited or anthology series, which went to The Queen’s Gambit.
The 73rd Primetime Emmy Awards took place on September 19th, with Cedric the Entertainer serving as the host.
