]]>“We are thrilled to have John Oliver as an integral part of the HBO family and to continue to share his comedic brilliance with the world,” said HBO entertainment president Casey Bloys in a statement. “His extraordinary genius for rich and intelligent commentary is second to none.”
To which Oliver replied: “First: I firmly disagree with everything Casey just said. Second: We’re very grateful to Richard Plepler, Casey and everyone at HBO for letting us continue to do whatever it is we actually do. And finally: We’d also like to thank our staff for all their hard work. We’re incredibly proud of all of you, and rather than tell you that to your face, we’d like to do it in the cold, dispassionate form of a press release.”
As far as Emmy nominations as a measure of success, Last Week Tonight is currently up for 8 Emmy nominations, including Outstanding Variety Talk Series, a category that was ruled by The Daily Show with John Stewart and The Colbert Report for many years. The show has just also won 2 Creative Arts Emmy awards including Outstanding Interactive Program and Outstanding Picture editing.

]]>The actress told EW that even though this isn’t the first time she’s received Emmy nominations, this time, as the producer, it feels much more personal. She added that when producing it’s really about being on the inside of something so she can’t help but feel different.
Moss loves it when fans get personal as well, hearing their reactions and thoughts about the first season.
“Having the outside perspective is really moving and gratifying and also really fun. It’s really fun for me to hear people’s questions and thoughts and to hear if they are Team Nick or Team Luke and I eat it all up. I love that stuff. It’s very fun for me because it feels personal and I have my own opinions about things, too. I feel like a fan as well. I’m asked a lot which team I’m on but I never say.”
When asked about what fans can expect from the second season, Moss replied that even though she has just read the outline for the first episode, she can say that “[it]’s insane!… There is literally no way that anyone can guess what happens. You can try, but you won’t do it. It’s incredible. We’re really looking to blow people away, and we have every intention to break [the story] open and go even further in all directions. We have no intention of doing anything else than being even more balls to the wall than we were in season 1.”

A Television Academy Spokesperson said to EW: “Having reviewed the Moonshadow episode of This Is Us, the Awards Committee noted that the entrant unfortunately miscalculated the proportion of scenes that were period versus contemporary. In fact, the episode is predominately period. The entry (and subsequent nomination) are thereby disqualified.”
Taking its place in the category is Netflix series’ House of Cards along side Big Little Lies, Fox’s Empire, Grace and Frankie and Transparent.
