Fallen Leaves and The Zone of Interest are the strongest contenders for the best film award this year. The list of contenders in this category also includes Justine Triet’s Anatomy of a Fall, Agnieszka Holland’s Green Border, and Matteo Garrone’s Me Captain—and they’ve all been nominated for the best European director, as well!
Fallen Leaves and The Zone of Interest also received nods for the best screenplay, along with Green Border and Anatomy of a Fall, while Me Captain missed out on this nomination, with the German drama The Teachers’ Lounge taking the fifth spot.
Fallen Leaves stars Jussi Vatanen and Alma Pöysti received acting nods for their respective performances, along with The Zone of Interest actors Christian Friedel and Sandra Hüller. Hüller will be competing against herself in the best European actress field since she’s also nominated for Anatomy of a Fall.
