]]>The actress took to Twitter to announce the exciting news, saying that she simply, “could not put the book down,” a love that will result in a film adaptation Noah’s memoir, Born a Crime: Stories from a South African Childhood.
Nyong’o will portray The Daily Show host’s mother as the story chronicles the years Noah was in Apartheid-era South Africa, living his life as an outlaw essentially due to him being a half-back, half-white person. In some way though, the memoir is just about Noah’s mother as it is about himself with critics saying that the memoir is also a compelling and an unforgettable homage to his mother.
Nyong’o is currently starring in Black Panther as Nakia.

]]>The post “This Is Us” star Chrissy Metz lands first feature-film starring role appeared first on OMG Check It Out !.
]]>EW has confirmed that Chrizzy Metz has signed on to star in The Impossible. The Emmy nominee can now add to her credits, that include American Horror Story and My Name Is Earl, the lead role in the big screen adaptation of Joyce Smith’s faith-based book The Impossible: The Miraculous Story of a Mother’s Faith and Her Child’s Resurrection.
The Impossible tells the story of Joyce and her teenage son John who makes an incredible recovery. John fell through the ice on a frozen lake in Missouri, and even though he had been lifeless for an hour at the hospital, his heart began beating again just as his mom turned to prayer and begged God to save her son.
Directing the film is Roxann Dawson, Grant Nieporte penned the script with DeVon Franklin serving as producer.
Production of The Impossible begins in March. You can see Metz next on stage, starring in a revival of Neil LaBute’s Fat Pig at the Geffen Playhouse in Los Angeles.

]]>Little is known about Steven Spielberg’s remake of the street gang musical West Side Story. Most recent news regarding the almost completely under wraps project is that penning the script is screenwriter Tony Kushner (Lincoln, Munich) and now a casting call has gone out.
A casting notice is seeking performers that’ll be cast as the onscreen musical’s main characters, 3 Latino performers for the roles of Maria, Anita, and Bernardo and a Caucasian actor for the role of Tony.
Spielberg has never tempted making a musical but has talked about doing it since the mid-‘80s. It will be interesting to see how the iconic filmmaker’s adaptation the 1957 Broadway musical from stage to the screen. With the music written by Leonard Bernstein and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim there’s no surprise the casting call notice reads, “must be able to sing.”
The casting call was first reported by Broadway World.

]]>Sunday’s 75th annual Golden Globes ceremony is definitely a night to remember as it wasn’t just a night of celebrating outstanding achievements in film and television, it was a night that symbolized that a new era in Hollywood has begun.
The ceremony took place at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills with Seth Meyers as host. The night began with many stars choosing to make a powerful statement on the red carpet as they were clad in black, symbolizing their solidarity with victims of sexual harassment. After the slew of sexual misconduct scandals, “Time’s Up” initiative encouraged stars attending the ceremony to wear black.
The evening was also fun-filled. Even though Meyers had a very complicated event to host on his hands, he definitely managed to make lemonade out of lemons. His opening monologue really set the tone for the night with a simple straight forward delivery, with the expected zings and burns at Harvey Weinstein, Kevin Spacey and others.
The big winners of the night was HBO’s female led Big Little Lies and The Handmaid’s Tale who won Best Limited Series or TV Movie and Best TV Series, Drama respectively; Amazon’s The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel won Best TV Series, Comedy/Musical, and Lady Bird and Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri who both won Best Picture in the Comedy/Musical and Drama categories respectively.
The most moving moment of the evening was when Oprah Winfrey accepted the Cecil B. DeMille award. The media mogul received the award to the tune of massive cheers and her first standing ovation. Oprah is the first black woman to receive the honor for her “outstanding contributions to the world of entertainment.” Wearing black like many others, Oprah’s moving speech was a message of hope for the future.
“For too long, women have not been heard or believed if they dare speak the truth to the power of those men. But their time is up,” Winfrey said, drawing her second standing ovation. “Their time is up!” She later said, “I want all the girls watching here and now to know that a new day is on the horizon!” drawing her third standing ovation.

]]>The 15-second teaser showcases the star-studded cast of Sandra Bullock, Cate Blanchett, Mindy Kaling, Helena Bonham Carter, Sarah Paulson, Rihanna, Anne Hathaway and Awkwafina.
The teaser starts with Bullock as Debbie Ocean talking to Lou (Blanchett). The two talk about Ocean’s plan to pull off a heist at New York City’s annual Met Gala. “Why do you need to do this?” Lou asks, to which Debbie replies, “Because it’s what I’m good at.”
The teaser offers little clues regarding what is to be expected but among the rapid scene flashes, Debbie is seen sipping a martini while sitting in front of a grave that reads “Danny Ocean, 1961-2018,” suggesting that George Clooney’s character has died.
Also expected to make cameo appearances in the film are Olivia Munn, Katie Holmes, Kim Kardashian West, Kendall Jenner and Matt Damon.
