Multiple outlets confirm that Tracy Oliver series will officially return for another season featuring stars Ryan Michelle Bathe, Jill Scott, and Michelle Buteau.

“Tracy Oliver’s First Wives Club has been hugely successful on BET+, served as one of our signature originals at launch and helped us quickly become the largest African American focused SVOD service,” said Devin Griffin, general manager, BET+. “Our subscribers loved season one and are eagerly awaiting season two.”

“I’m overwhelmed by all the love and support the first season has received from our audience. I’m beyond excited to work with BET and this amazing, hilarious cast on a second season! Let the hijinks and shenanigans begin,” added Oliver.

Another reboot is coming to TV and this time it’s the First Wives Club. The reboot has found a home with Paramount Network just two week after the network ordered the project to pilot. 

The news that the comedy series will return, this time to the small screen with 10 half-hour episodes in 2019 was announced Thursday. The series is based on the 1996 film of the same name, which in turn was based on the 1992 book of the same name by Olivia Goldsmith. 

Production will begin this summer in New York City, as the series is based in the Big Apple. It tells the story of three women who come together after their marriages fall apart. 

Co-screenwriter of the hit film Girls Trip, Tracy Oliver, will penn the script as well as serving as executive producer on the series. Keith Cox, President of Development and Production at Paramount Network, TV Land and CMT, called Oliver “a brilliant writer and the perfect visionary to bring this unforgettable story from the big screen to the small screen in a fresh and contemporary way.” Amy Powell, President of Paramount TV said, “Girls Trip was one of the funniest comedies in recent memory and we know Tracy will breathe new life, and some serious laughs, into these beloved First Wives Club characters.”

Castings will be announced in the coming weeks.
