]]>In addition to winning the best picture, Nomadland made history in two additional categories. Chloé Zhao became the second woman to win the Oscar for the best director, while Frances McDormand won her third acting Oscar, becoming only the seventh person to do so.
Anthony Hopkins pulled a major upset with The Father, and became the oldest best actor winner, scooping the award from the expected winner Chadwick Boseman. The supporting acting awards were won by Daniel Kaluuya (Judas and the Black Messiah) and Youn Yuh-jung (Minari).
The list of movies to walk away with two awards includes The Father, Judas and the Black Messiah, Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom, Mank, Soul, and Sound of Metal. It was also a big night for Emerald Fennell, who won the best original screenplay award for Promising Young Woman, and Thomas Vinterberg, whose latest project Another Round was crowned as the best international film.
The 93rd Academy Awards took place on April 25th, and the ceremony was aired from Union Station and Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles.

]]>The official synopsis still hasn’t seen the light of day, but The French Dispatch has been described as “a love letter to journalists set at an outpost of an American newspaper in 20th century Paris.” According to the sources close to Anderson, it will take place in the 1950s and center on three different storylines.
The cast of The French Dispatch was pretty impressive long before Chalamet and Swinton joined. It also stars Anderson’s regulars Frances McDormand and Bill Murray, plus newcomers to his world – Benicio Del Toro and Jeffrey Wright. It’s been reported Natalie Portman, Brad Pitt, and Léa Seydoux might be joining the cast, but those are just rumors at this stage.
This period piece will be Anderson’s first live-action film since The Grand Budapest Hotel, which won four Oscars and received a Best Picture nod.

]]>The end-is-nigh series is based on the novel by Neil Gaiman and the late Terry Pratchett. Amazon described it as a tale about “fussy Angel and loose-living Demon who’ve become overly fond of life on Earth.” The two unlikely allies are forced to team up and stop Armageddon, but there’s a catch. They lost track of 11-year-old Antichrist and finding him is the only way to save the world.
Michal Sheen and David Tennent were entrusted with the responsibility of bringing the two main characters to life. McDormand is the latest addition to the impressive cast that also includes John Hamm, Michael McKean, and Miranda Richardson. Gaiman joked her casting was basically the result of blackmail. The actress, who never met the famous novelist before, emailed him to ask if she might use his house in Scotland. Gaiman agreed but used this as an opportunity to ask her if she’d be interested in joining the show.
“We knew God had to be a woman. We were talking about great American actresses because we knew [we wanted it] to be an American voice,” explained the author.
Everyone who already worships Fargo star will be delighted to hear she said “Yes.” They’ll have to wait until 2019 to hear her voicing God since the release date of Good Omens hasn’t been set yet.

]]>The two addressed Foster’s injury onstage with Lawrence asking, “I’m so sorry, what happened to you?”
“Streep!” Foster teased. “She I, Tonya’d me.” The joke was obviously a reference to the Oscar-nominated movie that tells the story of Olympic figure skater Tonya Harding in the midst of the infamous attack on Nancy Kerrigan in 1994.
“She tripped me once,” Lawrence added.
Foster’s rep told ET that she took a fall while skiing a few weeks ago, which forced her to use crutches at the Oscars.
Both of them presented the Best Actress award to Frances McDormand for her role Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri. Many people were left wondering when McDormand concluded her acceptance speech, saying, “I have two words for you: inclusion rider.”
“An inclusion rider is something actors put into their contracts to ensure gender and racial equality in hiring on movie sets,” comedian Whitney Cummings explained via Twitter. “We should support this for a billion reasons, but if you can’t find a reason to, here’s one: it will make movies better.”
