But, Disney decided to bring the magic to our homes by releasing Frozen 2 on Disney+ on Sunday, March 15—three months before its release date.

“‘Frozen 2’ has captivated audiences around the world through its powerful themes of perseverance and the importance of family, messages that are incredibly relevant during this time, and we are pleased to be able to share this heartwarming story early with our Disney+ subscribers to enjoy at home on any device,” Disney CEO Bob Chapek said in a statement.

The 2019 sequel to the No. 1 animated film of all-time catches up with Elsa the Snow Queen, Anna, Kristoff, Olaf, and Sven on their journey to discover the source of Elsa’s magical powers and to save Arendelle. During their journey, Elsa hears a voice calling out to her and she travels to the enchanted forest and dark sea, discovering herself along the way.

Kristen Bell, Idina Menzel, Josh Gad, Jonathan Groff, Evan Rachel Wood, and Sterling K. Brown star in the Frozen 2.

Frozen 2 is available for streaming in the U.S. and it will be released on Disney+ on Tuesday, March 17 in Canada, the Netherlands, Australia, and New Zealand.

Frozen 2 has passed the $1 billion mark at the global box office, grossing $366.5 million domestically and $666 million internationally, officially making it the sixth Disney release of the year to join the billion-dollar club and the eighth overall.

Directed by Chris Buck and Jennifer Lee, the Pixar films of the year takes audiences on a magical and adventurous journey. Despite the plot being a little complicated at times, the stunning visuals and incredible music make up for any convoluted plotlines.

The film centers around the sisters, Anna and Elsa (Kristin Bell and Idina Menzel), who are caught up in a war that was fought 34 years earlier.  The drama is woven with a spectacular soundtrack that sharpens the fast-paced action. In Frozen, Anna’s peers were worried about the strength and power of Elsa the Snow Queen, but now, they are worried her magic may not be enough. The one constant is that Anna always tries to stand by her beloved sister.

In Frozen 2 we are able to see Elsa using her power in new and imaginative ways. As Elsa is tasked with finding the source of a voice that only she can hear, her path leads her to truths that add new dimensions to her character. Finding the voice and the potential to learn the 5th element is tightly woven into the plot development.

As always, the Disney film is not just about the protagonist. We are spoilt for choice with new characters to love, such as the fiery frog and powerful water horse. But despite the strength of the new characters, our hearts melt once again for Olaf, the snowman that never melts. His character once again makes us smile, laugh out loud, and generally feel warm and fuzzy. Coupled with Anna and her love Kristoff, this movie will certainly leave the audience feeling satisfied.

Overall, Frozen 2 is worth the wait. It is packed with imaginative visuals and will take you on a rollercoaster of emotions. The kids will be glued to the screen and will be blasting out the music throughout the festive season. Adults too will love the action-filled adventure, even if they have to reduce their singing to humming in the shower.

The animated sequel’s box office numbers are in and they are big! The film has debuted to a whopping $127 million in the domestic box office, from 4,440 theaters in North America. The feature also did well in its opening weekend overseas hauling $223 million, making its global haul $350 million.

Per Variety, the animated adventure feature has set a November record for an animated movie and is officially the third-best start for an animated film behind Incredibles 2 ($182 million) and Finding Dory ($135 million).

“There was certainly a high bar,” said Disney’s president of global distribution Cathleen Taff, “but the creative team put together a journey that feels really authentic. It’s resonating with fans and general audiences alike, so we think it will play right into the holiday weekend.”

Two months minus one day before it hits theaters, a third and most likely last Frozen II trailer has been released. 

The new trailer finally reveals Anna and Elsa’s, played by Kristen Bell and Idina Menzel, biggest adversary — an enchanted forest that has been trapping the people of Arendelle, leaving them unable to exit the forest.

“Far away, as north as the people of [Arendelle] could go, there stood an enchanted forest. It was a magical place but something went wrong, and since then, no one can get in or out.”

The trailer shows a voice from the forest calling out for Elsa. As the sisters, as well as Kristoff (Jonathan Groff) and Olaf (Josh Gad) venture into the forest, Elsa is danger of losing herself to magic, and it’s up to her sister to make sure that doesn’t happen.

As it usually goes with teasers, this one doesn’t really reveal much and it’s simply here to build the suspense. It opens with Elsa trying to use her freezing powers to conquer a giant wave, and ends with the main characters from the original movie overlooking a large valley with determined look on their faces.

Frozen 2 will be directed by Chris Buck and Jennifer Lee, who won an Oscar for their work on the first film. Members of the original cast Kristen Bell, Idina Menzel, and Jonathan Groff will reprise their respective roles. Josh Gad, who voiced the lovable snowman Olaf, will also be back and he shared positive thoughts about this sequel on Instagram.

“The amazing people at Disney Animation have created a story that carries on the incredible legacy of the original Frozen and continues to build and expand on the characters and themes in new and exciting ways,” wrote Gad after getting back in the studio to record his lines.

Frozen 2 will take us far out of Arendelle according to director Jennifer Lee, but we’ll have to wait until November 22 to see where exactly are we going.
