]]>The Last Showgirl will center on a seasoned showgirl in her fifties, who’s struggling to figure out what to do next when her show abruptly closes after three decades. While her career falls apart, she also must figure out how to repair a strained relationship with her daughter.
In a statement announcing this film, Coppola said she always wanted to make a movie in Vegas, adding she’s proud of its cast and crew. She praised Anderson’s daring and heartfelt performance in The Last Showgirl and said she can’t wait for the world to see it.
Kate Gersten wrote the script for this project, with Natalie Farrey and Robert Schwartzman coming on board as producers. He described The Last Showgirl as a dream project with a dream cast, that will give them a chance to “tell an authentic Las Vegas story that pays homage to the iconic Showgirl, told through Gia’s unique sense of style and visual storytelling.”
In addition to Anderson, this project will also star the Oscar winner Jamie Lee Curtis (Everything Everywhere All At Once), Dave Bautista (Guardians of the Galaxy), Brenda Song (Dollface), Kiernan Shipka (Chilling Adventures of Sabrina), and Billie Lourd (Scream Queens).

]]>Coppola‘s next project has been described as an “eccentric love triangle” and a “cautionary tale of preserving your identity within the fast-moving internet age.” She wrote the script alongside Tom Stuart and should start filming before the end of the year.
Garfield isn’t the only reason to go see Mainstream once it finally hits the theaters. This intriguing love story also stars Maya Hawke, Jason Schwartzman, and Nat Wolff, who starred in Coppola’s directorial debut Palo Alto in 2013.
Gia Coppola comes from a long line of successful filmmakers, but she started paving her own path only a few years ago. Despite relatively disappointing box office performance, her first film Palo Alto impressed the critic with its terrific and truthful portrayal of teenage lives. Let’s hope Mainstream does the same thing!
