]]>The reboot of the horror franchise earned $77.5 million after opening in almost 4,000 locations in North America. This means that the film has earned the impressive second-best start for an R-rated horror film being It’s. The sequel to John Carpenter’s 1978 classic has also scored the second-highest October opening ever, behind Venom’s $80.3 million earlier this month.
Overseas, Halloween generated $14.3 million this weekend.
The film helmed by Jason Blum and Blumhouse Productions ignores the nine other remakes and picks up 40 years later, with Jamie Lee Curtis’s Laurie Strode preparing for her inevitable rematch with masked killer Michael Myers, played by James Jude Courtney.
“I am enormously proud of this film,” Blum said in a statement. “Halloween brings the franchise back to life in a fresh, relevant and fun way that is winning over fans and critics alike.”
“There had been quite some time between the original film,” Jim Orr, Universal’s president of domestic distribution said. “You combine that with the return of a tremendous star in Jamie Lee Curtis, great writing, great filmmaking. All of that comes together as a perfect storm.”
Rounding out the top five this weekend are A Star Is Born, with about $19.3 million; Venom, with about $18.1 million; Goosebumps 2: Haunted Halloween, with about $9.7 million; and First Man, with about $8.6 million.

]]>Somehow, this adorable family manages to top the previous years’ costumes every time. This year, they chose a “Carnival of Curiosities” theme. Neil was a perfect creepy ringmaster, David hit the center with his clown costume, Gideon was a strong man with mustache while Harper looked adorable as a bearded lady.
Meanwhile, Justin Timberlake and Jessica Biel had a Toy Story themed Halloween with their 2-year-old son, Silas. The couple shared adorable photos of the family trick-or-treating.
Meanwhile, Freddie Prinze Jr. and Sarah Michelle Gellar’s decided to dress up as Andie and Duckie from the ’80s movie Pretty in Pink. Sarah shared a photo which shows they have really put some effort into the costumes – she rocked a red wig and both of them had spot-on clothes.

]]>Meanwhile, Gwyneth Paltrow and her boyrfriend, Brad Falchuk, paid tribute to Paltrow’s 1995 crime thriller Se7en with a skilfully twisted couple’s costume this year.
In the shocking ending of David Fincher’s serial killer drama, Paltrow’s character’s boyfriend (Played by Paltrow’s ex Brad Pitt), is led to a mysterious box in the middle of the desert by the killer John Doe (played by Kevin Spacey) to find the actress’s character’s head in a box for the film’s final act.
Paltro dressed up as her slaughtered character, complete with a cardboard box around her head and a shocked expression on her face. As for Falchuk, co-creator of American Horror Story, he wore an orange jumpsuit with black shackles binding his wrists and white sneakers, recreating John Doe’s ensemble in the desert.
The Oscar winner actress simply captioned the photo with a Jack-o-Lantern emoji.

]]>The original Halloween movie, which premiered in 1978 was Curtis’ film debut. Since then, she returned to the franchise four times for sequels. Now, 40 years later, Curtis will be starring in the next film of the horror franchise.
Curtis took to social media and announced her return on Twitter, posting a photo of her on set next to a jack-o-lantern with a masked Michael Myers standing behind her in the doorway. She added the caption: “Same porch. Same clothes. Same issues. 40 years later. Headed back to Haddonfield one last time for Halloween.”
The new Halloween is co-written by comedian Danny McBride (Eastbound & Down) and filmmaker David Gordon Green, who will also direct the film. Director of the 1978 original horror film John Carpenter wrote on Facebook earlier this year that the duo’s vision for the new movie is simply “WOW.”
Curtis’ casting comes with little surprise as McBride is a fan of the original. He told EW that he just loves the original, adding that “there’s something so scary about how simple it was.” He also revealed that their ambition for the new installment is “to strip it down and get it back to [being] grounded in reality, which I think makes it scarier.”
The new Halloween will hit theaters on October 19, 2018.
