Multiple outlets confirm that the 18-year-old wrote and performed the new theme song for the upcoming 25th installment of the British spy franchise. 

In a statement shared via the franchise’s official Twitter account, Eilish wrote: “It feels crazy to be a part of this in every way. To be able to score the theme song to a film that is part of such a legendary series is a huge honour. James Bond is the coolest film franchise ever to exist. I’m still in shock.”

Eilish joins other artists lucky enough to be chosen to record the 007 theme song including Adele and Sam Smith. 

No Time to Die is set to be released in theaters in April.

The former James Bond star is very much ready for a woman to helm the successful spy franchise. 

“I think we’ve watched the guys do it for the last 40 years. Get out of the way, guys, and put a woman up there. I think it would be exhilarating, it would be exciting,” the actor told The Hollywood Reporter.

“James Bond has a certain significance and a deep pride,” he added. “I will be asked about him until my dying days — it just goes with the territory. He’s a beloved character.”

But Brosnan knows that chances are slim for a woman to get the role under the stewardship on producers Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli,

“I don’t think that’s going to happen with the Broccolis,” he said. “I don’t think that is going to happen under their watch.”

Brosnan was, of course, referring to a statement made by Broccoli a year ago. “Bond is male. He’s a male character,” she told The Guardian. “He was written as a male and I think he’ll probably stay as a male. And that’s fine. We don’t have to turn male characters into women. Let’s just create more female characters and make the story fit those female characters.”

Social media has been buzzing with fans guessing who will take over the lead in the Bond franchise after Daniel Craig’s expected departure. While some suggested various actors to take over the iconic character, like Idris Elba, some thought it was time a woman starred as the suave spy.

But the idea of a gender switch is off the table according to producer Barbara Broccoli, who told the Guardian that the change the production will go in that creative direction is very unlikely. 

“Bond is male. He’s a male character. He was written as a male and I think he’ll probably stay as a male,” she told the outlet. “And that’s fine. We don’t have to turn male characters into women,” she added. “Let’s just create more female characters and make the story fit those female characters.” Finally, she added that the Bond character had in fact “transformed with the times”. “I’ve tried to do my part, and I think particularly with the Daniel [Craig] films, they’ve become much more current in terms of the way women are viewed.”

The next installment helmed by Fukunaga and starring Craig is scheduled to hit theaters on February 14, 2020.

The 25th cinematic instalment of the James Bond franchise has finally confirmed its new director. Cary Fukunaga will be filling the shoes of Daniel Craig, who confirmed he was stepping down from his role in August.

An official Tweet announced: “Michael G. Wilson, Barbara Broccoli and Daniel Craig announced today that #Bond25 will begin filming at Pinewood Studios on 4 March 2019 under the helm of director, Cary Joji Fukunaga with a worldwide release date of 14 February 2020.”

Fukunaga directed the first series of True Detective, which won huge critical acclaim. He has since directed the acclaimed Beasts of No Nation in 2015, which starred Idris Elba.

In recent years, the American director has proved his eclectic set of talents by directing blockbuster horror It, which was one of the most highly anticipated remakes of 2017. His latest project Maniac, which stars Emma Stone and Jonah Hill is coming to Netflix this week.

We have high hope Fukanga’s vision of James Bond, it’s just too bad we have to wait another year and a half to see it.

E! News reports that Bond casting rumors were reignited this week after The Daily Star reported that Antoine Fuqua has spoken to a Bond producer saying it’s time for an ethnic minority actor to play the lead. The report added that the director suggested Elba.

It didn’t stop there. On Sunday, Elba taunted fans, hinting that he might succeed Daniel Craig in the 007 franchise. The 45-year-old British actor took to Twitter, first posting a cryptic selfie captioned with, “my name’s Elba, Idris Elba,” an unmistakable reference to the iconic Bond line. 

This of course kick started the rumor mill into even high gear, however, much to fans’ disappointment, he later tweeted, “Don’t believe the HYPE” next to an image of the rap group Public Enemy. 

According to E! News, Elba said in 2014 that if the role was offered to him, he would gladly accept. If this is to happen, it would mean that Elba would be the first ever black actor to step into the suave spy shoes. However, the actor did address the fact that traditionally Bond is a white Scott telling NPR in 2011, “I just don’t want to be called the first black James Bond. Do you understand what I’m saying? Sean Connery wasn’t the Scottish James Bond and Daniel Craig wasn’t the blue-eyed James Bond. So if I played him, I don’t want to be called the black James Bond.”

The next installment in the franchise will be Craig’s fifth 007 film. Producers also confirm that Trainspotting director, Danny Boyle will helm the project. 

The news was confirmed Friday in a statement from the production company behind the James Bond films published by The Guardian. 

“We are delighted to announce that the exceptionally talented Danny Boyle will be directing Daniel Craig in his fifth outing as James Bond in the 25th installment of the franchise,” read the statement from Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli from EON Productions. “We will begin shooting Bond 25 at Pinewood Studios in December with our partners at MGM and are thrilled that Universal will be our international distributor.”

Craig has played the suave spy in four consecutive films, Casino Royale, Quantum of Solace, Skyfall and Spectre. At some point it had appeared Craig had had enough and the chances of him participating in any future Bond seemed slim to none. 

In an interview for TimeOut he said that playing Bond is a “drag.” He continued with brutal honesty saying, he’s done and that all his wants to do is “move on,” and he would rather “slash [his] wrists” than do another Bond movie.

Since then Craig admitted that is was a stupid graceless statement. 

The 25th installment in the James Bond franchise is expected to hit theaters in November 2019.

The 26-year-old singer said that he had already written a theme song for the James Bond franchise saying, “With Bond, I’ve actually had a theme tune written for about three years, just in case!”

If Sheeran’s song were to be picked up by the 007 production, he will be joining other huge names in the industry including Madonna, Tom Jones, Shirley Bassey and Tina Turner, who have had the honor of making music for the handsome secret agent. Two recent singer-songwriters have even won Oscars for their theme songs, Adele for Skyfall and Sam Smith for Writing’s on the Wall.

The singer would not reveal the title of his Bond theme song saying that he isn’t going to say it “‘cause someone might steal it.” He then reassured fans by saying not to worry, the track “is good, is good.”

Returning as Bond for the 5th time out of a total 25 films in the franchise is Daniel Craig. The release date for the next Bond installment is November 8, however, no director, title, and other actors have not been announced yet.
