Son of the South is based on Zellner’s 2008 memoir called The Wrong Side of Murder Creek: A White Southerner in the Freedom Movement. Till will play the lead character – Alabama native and grandson of a Ku Klux Klan member, who becomes a civil rights activist during the ‘60s.

Lucy Hale will portray Carol Anne, Zellner’s college girlfriend. The rest of the cast features the likes of Lex Scott Davis, Julia Ormond, Cedric the Entertainer, and Sharonne Lanie.

Son of the South will be directed by Spike Lee’s longtime editor Barry Alexander Brown, who was also in charge of writing a screenplay. This isn’t Brown’s first foray into directing – he actually made his directorial debut all the way back in 1990, with comedy Lonely in America.
