Multiple outlets confirm that Reid, best known for her role on Veep, has joined the cast of CBS All Access’ upcoming comedy drama.

The comedy follows three women living in three different decades — a housewife in the ‘60s (Ginnifer Goodwin), a socialite in the ‘80s (Lucy Liu) and a lawyer in 2018 — each dealing with infidelity in their marriages. 

According to Deadline, Scott will play Eli a good-natured and smart enough to know that his sense of humor is the sexiest thing about him. He is a stay-at-home writer, married to Taylor (aka the yet-to-be-cast lawyer). He’s happy that they both have the liberty to sleep with other people — with the caveat of not bringing their playmates home — but all that changes when Taylor bring her lesbian lover over for the weekend.

Why Women Kill hails from Desperate Housewives creator Marc Cherry. Cherry will also executive produce alongside Marc Webb. Webb will also produce and direct.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the series, which is set to air on CBS All Access, will follow three women in different time periods, with each one of them trying to cope with marital infidelity. Its aim is to show how the roles of women have changed through different eras, but their reaction to being betrayed has remained the same.

Deadline reports that Lucy Liu will take on the role of Simone, who is described as “smugly superior, a woman for whom appearances mean everything, she thrives on shopping and throwing parties, seemingly happily married to her indulgent husband, Karl, who thinks she is simply fabulous. However, despite nagging premonitions, Simone is devastated, her world upended, when she learns that Karl has been cheating on her.”

The premiere date for Why Women Kill still remains to be determined, but the realistic expectations are late 2019 or early 2020.

Besides Elementary, and now Why Women Kill, Lucy Liu worked on several other projects including sci-fi movie Future World, where she co-starred with James Franco and Milla Jovovich, and romantic comedy Set It Up. She is also set to have a voice role in 2019’s Space Jam 2.

Network executives explained a lot of parties came together and came to the same conclusion. This felt like the best time to say goodbye to this show, from both a financial and a creative standpoint.

“Rob [Doherty] set out to tell a story, and it feels like he has accomplished what he had set out to do. The actors, the crew and the cast feel that way, and we feel that. So are grateful and celebrating what we had and looking forward to the future,” stated executive producer Carl Beverly.

Jonny Lee Miller and Lucy Liu already filmed their last scene as Sherlock and Watson. Waving goodbye to these iconic characters felt like the most logical step to take as their contracts were about to expire.

Season 7 will premiere sometime in 2019. CBS Entertainment president Kelly Kahl admitted it’s bittersweet to part ways with this show because he sees Elementary as one of their biggest success stories.

“It’s almost a template for what makes a successful CBS show: initial strength, strength in various time periods over time, very successful in terms of international and domestic distribution and, last but definitely not least, a very high-quality show with terrific producers and terrific actors,” concluded Kahl.
