]]>The How To Get Away With Murder actress will star opposite Chadwick Boseman in the screen adaptation of Wilson’s award-winning play Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom for Netflix.
Also on board is Denzel Washington. Davis and Washington have collaborated in the past on a Wilson play titled Fences. The duo first starred in the play’s 2010 revival on Broadway and then went on to star opposite each other in the 2016 feature film.
The story follows Ma Rainey, a blues singer in 1927 Chicago as she records her new album. Then tensions boil over between her, her white agent and producer and the bandmates.
Emmy winner Glynn Turman, Tony, and Olivier nominee Colman Domingo and Michael Potts round out the cast.
George C. Wolfe is set to direct from a script by Ruben Santiago-Hudson. While in Fences he served as director, this time around Washington is set to produce alongside Todd Black and Dany Wolf. Constanza Romero is executive producing and Branford Marsalis has been set as the composer.
The news was announced Wednesday by the streaming giant.
