According to its official logline, “this action-packed new chapter sees an extraction team race to the most dangerous place on Earth, an island research facility for the original Jurassic Park, inhabited by the worst of the worst that were left behind.”
The latest sequel in this franchise will take place five years after the events of Jurassic World Dominion, and it will see the remaining dinosaurs living in isolated equatorial environments after the planet’s ecology has proven largely inhospitable to their species.
Scarlett Johansson will lead the cast as skilled covert operations expert Zora Bennet, whose mission to extract dinosaur DNA takes her to a forbidden island that was once home to an undisclosed research facility for Jurassic Park. Jonathan Bailey will join her as a paleontologist Dr. Henry Loomis, while Mahershala Ali will play her trusted advisor Duncan Kincaid.
In addition to the leading trio, Jurassic World Rebirth will also star Rupert Friend, Manuel Garcia-Rulfo, Luna Blaise, David Iacono, and Ed Skrein. It’s scheduled to be released on July 2 via Universal Pictures.
This feel-good buddy dramedy tells the story of classical pianist Don Shirley (Mahershala Ali) and his driver Tony Lip (Viggo Mortensen), who accompanies him on a tour in the Deep South during the ‘60s.
This promising project will hit theaters on November 21, and its victory in Toronto is a huge deal. Winners of People’s Choice Award have been part of the Oscar race on numerous occasions in the past and even scooped Best Picture several times. 12 Years a Slave, The King’s Speech and Slumdog Millionaire are some of the films to score both awards.
People’s Choice Awards are voted on by TIFF attendees, who vote online or by placing their ticket stubs in a box at the theater. Green Book won them over this year, but it wasn’t the only movie they fell in love with. If Beale Street Could Talk by Barry Jenkins was the first runner-up, and it was followed by Alfonso Cuarón’s Roma.
]]>Oscar winner Mahershala Ali leads the next installment of HBO’s crime drama and takes front and center in the first teaser. He plays Wayne Hays, an Arkansas state police detective who’s trying to solve a mystery from his past that’s been haunting him for decades. Season 3 is set in Ozark and centers on a terrible crime that unravels over three separate time periods.
Judging by the teaser alone, True Detective is going back to the gritty atmosphere it established in Season 1. It also has a similar structure, since it involves the use of fragmented memories, an unreliable narrator and multiple parallel timelines. Creator Nic Pizzolatto has been credited with writing all the episodes, but he won’t direct each one. Critically acclaimed indie filmmaker Jeremy Saulnier will be in charge of the first two.
In addition to Mahershala Ali, the third season also stars Carmen Ejogo, Ray Fisher, Scoot McNairy and Mamie Gummer. Release date is still under wraps, but it should premiere some time in 2019.
]]>Set to direct season three of True Detective is Daniel Sackheim (The Americans). Sackheim will replace Jeremy Saulnier who helmed the first two episodes of the next season.
“Director and executive producer Jeremy Saulnier has completed the first two episodes of True Detective Season 3 and will be departing the production due to scheduling issues. Daniel Sackheim has come on board as a director and executive producer for the series alongside series creator and director Nic Pizzolatto,” HBO said in a statement.
The original plan was for Saulnier to split the direction of the next installment’s episodes with True Detective creator Nic Pizzolatto. But now, due to scheduling issues, it’ll be Sackheim, who also serves as executive producer, that will handle the directing with Pizzolatto. This marks Sackheim directorial debut.
While season one was directed entirely by Emmy-winning Cary Fukunaga, the second season was done by multiple directors, so this shuffle is somewhat of a habit for the show’s executives.
The third season revolved around a crime in the Ozarks and stars Mahershala Ali.
True Detective season three is not expected to arrive on HBO until 2019.
]]>HBO president of programming Casey Bloys, confirmed in July, that the Oscar-winning Moonlight star, Mahershala Ali, will join the cast of True Detective. This time around, the show will return to its rural roots after spending a season in L.A., and will be set in the Ozraks.
EW also confirmed the storyline for the 3rd season: “The next installment of True Detective tells the story of a macabre crime in the heart of the Ozarks, and a mystery that deepens over decades and plays out in three separate time periods.”
Behind-the-scenes details were also revealed: with the exception of episode 4, original show runner Nic Pizzolatto will be the sole writer of the series; episode 4 was co-written by David Milch, who was brought on to help Pizzolatto shape the season.
