The Oscar-winning actress is set to star in Netflix’s forthcoming revenge thriller Sweet Girl from first time helmer Brian Andrew Mendoza. 

She is set to play a US senator, alongside previously cast lead, Jason Momoa. 

According to multiple outlets, the film sees Momoa playing a devastated husband who vows to find the people responsible for the murder of his wife while protecting what he has left, his daughter (Isabela Merced), per The Hollywood Reporter. 

The film also stars Adria Arjona, Manuel Garcia-Rulfo, and Justin Bartha.

The feature is set to re-team Mendoza and Momoa — Mendoza served as the DP on the actor’s action movie Braven.

The still-untitled project for Universal hails from Apatow and Davidson who co-wrote the script along with Dave Sirus. According to sources the project is a coming-of-age comedy set in New York and is a semi-autobiographical story of Davidson growing up in Staten Island.

Tomei, who plays Aunt May in the current Spider-Man features, will play Davidson’s mother. Bel Powley and Bill Burr are also on the call sheet for undisclosed roles.

Apatow is the founder of Apatow productions through which he developed a variety of television series including the acclaimed Girls. He also directed The 40-Year-Old Virgin(2005), Knocked Up (2007), Funny People (2009), and This Is 40 (2012).

Davidson stars on Saturday Night Live. His TV credits also include Brooklyn Nine-Nine and The Jim Gaffigan Show.

The comedy is set to shoot this summer in New York City, and is scheduled for a June 19, 2020, release.
