Minx took us to the 1970s Los Angeles, where an aspiring feminist writer Joyce Prigger (Ophelia Lovibond) decided to take a drastic step to have her work published. She joined forces with a low-rent publisher Doug Renetti (Jake Johnson) to start the first adult entertainment magazine geared towards the female audience.

In addition to Lovibond and Johnson in the lead roles, Minx also starred Idara Victor, Jessica Lowe, Lennon Parham, Michael Angarano, Oscar Montoya, Rich Sommer, and Elizabeth Perkins.

Starz didn’t give a reason for the cancelation of Minx, but the news doesn’t come as a shocker. The second season didn’t make a lot of noise after premiering days into the SAG-AFTRA strike, and Johnson recently said that the show would most likely be canceled.

“I think the move to Starz, I think HBO kind of doing their HBO thing… I think that was brutal for [the show. Then, I think the strike coming out right as we were trying to promote it… My guess is you can’t beat something up that many times and keep going,” Johnson told Deadline just last month.

The cancelation of Minx comes as a shocker since the production of the second season is wrapping up this week. HBO’s partner Lionsgate TV will look for a new home for the comedy series, led by Ophelia Lovibond and Jake Johnson.

“We have enjoyed a good partnership with HBO Max and are working closely to find a new opportunity for Minx, so current, and new viewers, can continue this journey with us,” reads Lionsgate TV’s statement.

Minx isn’t the only show to fall victim to HBO Max’s slate review. The streamer recently removed Gordita Chronicles from its platform, and later announced their first original scripted series Love Life, led and executive produced by Anna Kendrick, suffered the same fate.

Another shocker came with the removal of Westworld and The Nevers from HBO Max, but they’ll likely resurface on other platforms. Westworld was recently canceled after four seasons, and HBO’s latest decision comes as a surprise since it’s one of its biggest hits of the last decade.
