Morbius is based on the 1971 comic books created by Rob Thomas and Gil Kan. The titular vampire appeared throughout the Marvel franchise, with his first appearance in the 1971’s The Amazing Spider-Man and in the 1992 series, Morbius, the Living Vampire.
According to Variety, Morbius “follows Michael Morbius (Leto), a biochemist in search of a cure for his rare blood disease. However, he accidentally injects himself with vampirism, giving him bat-like superpowers like echo-location and an insatiable thirst for blood.”
The script was written by Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless. Also starring are Adria Arjona as Morbius’ fiancee, Jared Harris, Matt Smith, and Tyrese Gibson.

Jared Harris has officially joined Jared Leto in Sony Studio’s Spider-Man spinoff, Morbius. The feature about the infamous Dr. Michael Morbius is one of the several projects currently in development based on characters from the Spider-Man comics.
The character of biochemist Dr. Michael Morbius was created by writer Roy Thomas and artist Gil Kane. Dr. Morbius first debuted in 1971’s The Amazing Spider-Man #101 issue. In the comics, he is a Nobel Prize-winning biochemist who is transformed into a vampire while attempting to cure a rare blood disease after treating himself with serum derived from bats.
Harris, whose role is being kept under wraps (as are all other roles, apart from Leto, who plays the titular villain).
Helmer Daniel Espinosa will direct from a script penned by Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless.
Harris’ credits include television’s Mad Men and The Crown, as well as The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, and Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows.
