The list of contenders for the video of the year also included Ariana Grande’s “We Can’t Be Friends (Wait for Your Love)”, Billie Eilish’s “Lunch”, Doja Cat’s “Paint the Town Red”, Eminem’s “Houdini”, SZA’s “Snooze”, but they couldn’t stand their ground to “Fortnight”.
This chart-topping hit came out victorious in several more categories, including best collaboration, song of the summer, best editing, and best direction, while Swift herself won awards for the artist of the year and best pop.
Despite dominating this year’s MTV VMAs, “Fortnight” failed to win the coveted song of the year award. Sabrina Carpenter dominated this category with “Espresso”, beating tough competition in Beyoncé’s “Texas Hold ‘Em”, Jack Harlow’s “Lovin on Me”, Kendrick Lamar’s “Not Like Us”, and Teddy Swims’ “Lose Control”.
The 2024 MTV VMAs took place at the UBS Arena in Elmont, New York, on September 11. Megan Thee Stallion hosted the ceremony, while Katy Perry was honored with the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award.

The 2023 MTV Video Music Awards were held on September 12 in Newark, New Jersey, with Nicki Minaj returning to host the show for the second year in a row.

]]>The Colombian singer will make history as the first South American artist to be honored with the Video Vanguard Award, and she has some big shoes to fill! The list of most recent recipients of this honorary award includes Nicki Minaj, Missy Elliott, and Jennifer Lopez.
The Video Vanguard Award is meant to honor artists who had a profound impact on the music industry. Shakira fits this description perfectly, according to Bruce Gillmer, president of music, music talent, programming & events at Paramount.
“She’s a trailblazer for women around the world & one of the first artists to lead the globalization of Latin music. Her massive impact across the musical landscape will be long-lasting as she continues to create and entertain at the highest level,” said Gillmer in a statement.
The 2023 MTV Video Music Awards will take place at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey on September 12. Taylor Swift topped the list of nominees with eight nods, followed by SZA, Doja Cat, Kim Petras, Miley Cyrus, Nicki Minaj, Olivia Rodrigo, and Sam Smith.

The music video for “Anti-Hero”, directed by Swift herself, is one of the front-runners for video of the year, but it will have tough competition in Doja Cat’s “Attention”, Miley Cyrus’ “Flowers”, Nicki Minaj’s “Super Freaky Girl”, Olivia Rodrigo’s “Vampire”, Sam Smith and Kim Petras’ “Unholy”, and SZA’s “Kill Bill”.
Some of these tracks are also in the running for song of the year, with two notable exceptions. Doja Cat’s “Attention” and Nicki Minaj’s “Super Freaky Girl” have been left out, with Steve Lacy’s “Bad Habit” and Rema and Selena Gomez’s viral hit “Calm Down” taking their spots.
“Anti-Hero” is also in the running for best pop, best editing, best direction, best visual effects, and best cinematography, while Swift also scored a nod for artist of the year. The list of major nominees at this year’s ceremony includes SZA with six nods, and Doja Cat, Kim Petras, Miley Cyrus, Nicki Minaj, Olivia Rodrigo, and Sam Smith with five each.

Lil Nas X and Jack Harlow are competing by each other’s side in most categories after collaborating on the chart-topping hit “Industry Baby”. This song is in the running for two of the night’s main categories – the video and song of the year.
“Industry Baby” has been nominated for the best collaboration, direction, art direction, choreography, and visual effects, as well. Lil Nas X and Harlow also scored individual nominations for the artist of the year, along with Lizzo, Harry Styles, Drake, and more.
As for Kendrick Lamar, he won’t be competing in any of the main categories, but that didn’t stop him from scoring seven nominations with songs “N95”, “The Heart Part 5”, and “Family Ties” featuring Baby Keem. The list of main contenders also includes Doja Cat and Harry Styles with six nominations, and Billie Eilish, Drake, Dua Lipa, Ed Sheeran, Taylor Swift, and The Weeknd with five each.

Lil Nas X managed to beat the likes of Cardi B and The Weeknd to pick up the biggest award of the night—video of the year for his viral hit “Montero (Call Me by Your Name)”. This music video also won awards for best direction and best visual effects.
Olivia Rodrigo was also amongst the biggest winners of the night with a total of three trophies—best new artist, song of the year, and push performance of the year with her breakout hit “Drivers License”. BTS also came out victorious in three categories—group of the year, best K-pop, and song of the summer with “Butter”. Justin Bieber, who went into the night with the most nominations, picked up two awards, and so did Billie Eilish and Silk Sonic.
MTV Video Music Award took place on September 12th at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, with Doja Cat serving as a host. She was also one of the performers, along with Bieber, Rodrigo, Lil Nas X, Ed Sheeran, Camila Cabello, Normani, and many more.

Both pop stars scored a total of ten nods, and they’ll be going against each other in all the major categories. When it comes to the video of the year, Grande received a nomination with her pop culture-heavy hit video “Thank U, Next” while Swift scored her nod with star-studded visual for “You Need to Calm Down”.
Rising star Billie Eilish secured nine nominations, most of them thanks to her video for “Bad Guy”. The list of top nominees also includes Lil Nas X and Billy Ray Cyrus, who got eight nominations with their chart-topping hit “Old Town Road”.
This year’s MTV Video Music Awards will take place on August 26th, with Sebastian Maniscalco taking on the hosting duties.

Landing the opening number slot is a huge honor for Cardi B, but it’s definitely well-deserved. She received nominations in 10 different categories, beating out the likes of Beyoncé, Jay-Z and Drake. Most notably, she’s in the running for Artist of the Year and Best New Artist, but we’ll have to wait until August 20 to see if any of these awards end up in her hands.
The list of performers during the main show also includes Jennifer Lopez, Ariana Grande, Post Malone and Travis Scott. Nicki Minaj will deliver a special performance from a surprise remote location in New York City. Backstreet Boys are among artists slated for the VMAs red carpet pre-show outside of the Radio City Music Hall.
Cardi’s fans were super-excited to hear she’ll be able to make an appearance during this awards ceremony. She recently pulled out of Bruno Mars’ 24K Magic World Tour to focus on her newborn. The rapper admitted she had a hard time making this decision, but ultimately realized it’s the best thing to do.
“I think I underestimated this whole mommy thing. Not only am I just not ready physically, I’m not ready to leave my baby behind since the doctors explained it’s not healthy for her to be on the road.” wrote Cardi B a few weeks ago.
]]>The list of contenders for the video of the year also included Ariana Grande’s “We Can’t Be Friends (Wait for Your Love)”, Billie Eilish’s “Lunch”, Doja Cat’s “Paint the Town Red”, Eminem’s “Houdini”, SZA’s “Snooze”, but they couldn’t stand their ground to “Fortnight”.

In an interesting turn of events, “Fortnight” is the only song from this category to also be nominated for the song of the year. “Beyoncé’s “Texas Hold ‘Em”, Jack Harlow’s “Lovin on Me”, Kendrick Lamar’s “Not Like Us”, Sabrina Carpenter’s “Espresso”, and Teddy Swims’ “Lose Control” are also in the running for this prize.
“Fortnight” is also in the running for best collaboration, visual effects, editing, direction, art direction, and cinematography.
]]>
The music video for “Anti-Hero”, directed by Swift herself, is one of the front-runners for video of the year, but it will have tough competition in Doja Cat’s “Attention”, Miley Cyrus’ “Flowers”, Nicki Minaj’s “Super Freaky Girl”, Olivia Rodrigo’s “Vampire”, Sam Smith and Kim Petras’ “Unholy”, and SZA’s “Kill Bill”.
