Cardi B has spent over a month waiting to make her big comeback to the stage, and she couldn’t have picked a more perfect occasion. The Grammy-nominated rapper will open the 2018 MTV Video Music Awards, marking her first performance since giving birth.

Landing the opening number slot is a huge honor for Cardi B, but it’s definitely well-deserved. She received nominations in 10 different categories, beating out the likes of Beyoncé, Jay-Z and Drake. Most notably, she’s in the running for Artist of the Year and Best New Artist, but we’ll have to wait until August 20 to see if any of these awards end up in her hands.

The list of performers during the main show also includes Jennifer Lopez, Ariana Grande, Post Malone and Travis Scott. Nicki Minaj will deliver a special performance from a surprise remote location in New York City. Backstreet Boys are among artists slated for the VMAs red carpet pre-show outside of the Radio City Music Hall.

Cardi’s fans were super-excited to hear she’ll be able to make an appearance during this awards ceremony. She recently pulled out of Bruno Mars’ 24K Magic World Tour to focus on her newborn. The rapper admitted she had a hard time making this decision, but ultimately realized it’s the best thing to do.

“I think I underestimated this whole mommy thing. Not only am I just not ready physically, I’m not ready to leave my baby behind since the doctors explained it’s not healthy for her to be on the road.” wrote Cardi B a few weeks ago.

Billy Ray Cyrus had a chat with ET’s Nischelle Turner on the red carpet of MTV VMA’s, where his daughter Miley was performing her latest single, “Younger Now,” and his other daughter Noah was nominated for Best New Artist.

“Just living the music,” he told ET when asked about the secret to all that creativity flowing through the Cyrus family. “That’s our passion were all just having a lot of fun right now doing that.”

As for his duet with Miley, the 56-year-old father described it as “a really strong song about standing up for what you believe in.”

He also shared his excitement over his daughters’ performances, since Noah performed on Saturday night as part of showcase for Best New Artist.

“I’m really excited, it’s a fun night for a dad you know both girls are part of the show,” he said. “I love Miley’s performance and I saw Noah perform last night as part of the warm up for Best new Artist.”

The proud dad said he had a father-daughter moment with Noah before the show. “I told Noah just to be nominated – that’s a real blessing there. And I rode with her on the way in and she was saying, ‘Dad, you know you’re right just being nominated, just being here,’ she said, ‘It’s so exciting and you know its part of a dream coming true.'”

“And it’s all about the fans and that makes it really cool,” he continued.

The Cyrus household has encountered their share of public ups and downs but according to Billy Ray, it’s a good time to be part of the family.

“We’re in a pretty good spot,” he revealed. “I mean if you wanna rock and stay busy then the Cyrus household is a good place to be.”
