]]>Based on David Grann’s book of the same name, this historical epic takes us to the 1920s Oklahoma, when a series of mysterious murders shook the oil-rich Osage Nation. ]]>Haddish was named this years’ best supporting actress for her performance in the summer hit Girls Trip by the New York Film Critics Circle this Thursday. The win at the NYFCC comes after receiving considerable praise in the last few months for her role as trouble-maker Dina.
The hit comedy films definitely boosted Haddish’s career. Since July she has been on the ascent with performances on Saturday Night Live and an upcoming stand-up tour as well as a book of personal essays. She also landed two new roles in major studio comedies, New Line’s film The Kitchen and a Universal film titled The Temp.
After stealing the summer with her performance in the raunchy comedy and winning an NYFCC award, it seems like Haddish has not only been catapulted from breakout stardom but has become an official leading lady. Even though The Academy Awards have a certain bias when it comes to rewarding comedic actresses, Haddish is one of few women of color to land a considerable award chatter this year.
With a few other possible contenders, all there is to do is wait for the Oscar noms revealed in January.
