The streamer has handed out a 10-episode order for the show that will explore a dark mentorship that forms between a Las Vegas diva (Smart) and an entitled, outcast 25-year-old. 

“I am so thrilled to be making this show with our incredible partners at HBO Max and Universal TV, and it is a dream to write for the incomparable Jean Smart,” said Downs in a statement. “It is an honor and a privilege to craft and portray complex, female characters. For far too long, male voices dominated the space, both on-and-off screen, and thankfully that has finally changed. I’m sure Lucia and Jen agree, but unfortunately, they only gave us this much room for a quote. Sorry girls!”

Smart most recently starred in Watchmen. Her other credits include Frasier, Fargo, and the upcoming HBO series Mare of Easttown.

David Schwimmer has been cast in a new upcoming Sky One Comedy. His latest TV credit post Friends (1994-2004) was American Crime Story: The People v. OJ Simpson, in which he starred as lawyer Robert Kardashian.

Sky One has greenlit a new six-part workplace comedy titled Intelligence. Schwimmer is set to star opposite British comedian Nick Mohammed. Mohammed, whose writing credits include The Martian and Christopher Robin, will also pen the script. The two will also serve as executive producers.

According to Deadline, the comedy is set at Government Communications Headquarters (GCHQ) in Cheltenham. Schwimmer will star as a power-hungry NSA agent who joins an inept and tactless computer analyst (Mohammed) and a newly-formed team tackling cyber-crime.

“Even though the stakes are really high for the team, fighting cyber-crime, our six-part comedy series reveals the reality is not dissimilar to any other office environment, from temperamental photocopiers to meeting rooms being double booked,” said Nerys Evans, Expectation’s Creative Director, Comedy. “David Schwimmer and Nick Mohammed have a fantastic ‘odd couple’ chemistry and the scripts are brilliantly funny, we can’t wait to see the world of Intelligence come to life.”

While Mohammed said that working with Schwimmer is “an absolute dream come true,” Schwimmer simply said, “I have no idea what this show is about but if it’s called Intelligence, naturally I’m going to be part of it.”

Olsen and Weatherly have teamed up for a new project at CBS. The two CBS stars, (Olsen, NCIS: Los Angeles and Weatherly, Bull) will produce a new political drama series titled First Lady.

According to Deadline, the logline for the provocative drama is: First Lady centers on the beloved First Lady of the United States, who, determined to reclaim her life, does the unthinkable — she divorces her husband while he’s still in office and uses her prominence to become an advocate for truth and justice by revitalizing her career as an investigative journalist.

The series is written and executive-produced by Jessica Grasl. Weatherly will also executive produces via his Solar Drive Production and Olsen and Kate Schumaecker executive produce via Olsen’s Cloud Nine Productions.
