Plot details are being kept under wraps, but this film is being developed as the part of a trilogy, set in the same universe as 28 Days Later starring Cillian Murphy in his breakout role, which kicked off this franchise in 2002 and produced a sequel 28 Weeks Later.

Both films are set in the post-apocalyptic world where the release of a highly contagious virus has caused the breakdown of society and led to the emergence of zombie-like creatures.

Both 28 Days Later and 28 Weeks Later featured an impressive cast of actors who went on to become huge stars, ranging from Murphy, Naomie Harris, and Christopher Eccleston to Robert Carlyle, Rose Byrne, Jeremy Renner, and Idris Elba, and the third film will continue this trend.

Jodie Comer, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, and Ralph Fiennes are attached to this project, which hails from director Danny Boyle and screenwriter Alex Garland. Sony Pictures is plotting 28 Years Later as a part of a trilogy, and they’ve already tapped Nia DaCosta to direct the next film in the franchise.

Variety exclusively reports that Chastain is in negotiations to star in The Forgiven, a big-screen adaptation of the Lawrence Osborne’s novel of the same name directed by John Michael McDonagh.

While Chastain is in very early stages of negotiations, it is known that should she join she will play Fiennes’ wife in a story that follows the impact of a tragic accident in the lives of an English couple attending a party at a luxurious desert villa in Morocco.

Fiennes and Chastain previously starred together in Coriolanus in 2011. 

Saïd Taghmaoui and Mark Strong round out the cast.

The independent drama hails from Ricard Press, who will also be penning the screenplay. Gyllenhaal is also producing the indie feature with Albert Berger and Ron Yerxa though Bona Fide Productions. 

Farnsworth House is set in late 1940s Chicago. Gyllenhaal will play Dr. Edith Farnsworth, who together with Bauhaus architect Mies Van Der Rohe, played by Fiennes, set out to build the first glass house. The story will follow their passionate but tempestuous love affair.

In Edith Farnsworth is the opportunity to express a full and exciting spectrum of thoughts and feelings.
