Archie Comics, the publisher behind the Riverdale and Sabrina comic book characters, tweeted on Tuesday, showing Sabrina’s iconic banged bob and headband with the silhouette of Salem the cat, against a bloody red backdrop.

The upcoming series recreates the adventures of Sabrina the Teenage Witch into a dark coming-of-age story that features thrilling scenes, occult, and witchcraft. The adaptation finds Sabrina Spellman (played by Kiernan Shipka) struggling to reconcile her dual character – half witch and half mortal – while fighting the evil forces that threaten her, her loved ones and the world.

Jaz Sinclair will portray the role of Rosalind Walker, Sabrina’s best friend, while Ross Lynch will take on Sabrina’s boyfriend, Harvey Kinkle. Miranda Otto and Lucy Davis will play Sabrina’s witch aunts, Zelda and Hilda Spellman.

Lynch told ET in March how the new Sabrina will be different from the beloved ‘90s sitcom, played by Melissa Joan Hart, saying that the Netflix series is “based off the newer [comic],” which is darker than the previous one.

“There were certain reservations that I had to say yes to this project obviously, because there was a lot of music going and ‘Preacher Man’ is very exciting and a lot of people are reacting to it,” he explained at the time, while he was promoting the release of “Preacher Man,” his debut song with his band, The Driver Era. “But I really believe in this project. I just had a good feeling about it.”

“I’m happy to say that so far my expectations have been exceeded,” Lynch continued. “Just the aesthetic of everything and the actors that were cast and [Sabrina creator] Roberto [Aguirre-Sacasa] … all the visions are coming together and they’re effective.”

The show’s reboot is officially happening, which means that everyone’s favorite teenage witch is finally coming back to TV, but at Netflix instead of CW.

When the reboot was in its initial stages of development, the only network that was involved was CW. However, it was the streaming giant that announced that it will be the home for a small-screen adaptation of the graphic novel The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina.

Netflix confirmed that they handed out a two season, 20-episode straight-to-series order to a still untitled reboot. The network took to Twitter to announce the news writing, “Sabrina is coming to Netflix and she might just out-brood Jughead. Don’t @ me about talking cats (yet).”

Penning the script is chief creative officer Archie Comics Aguirre-Sacasa. It was said that this adaptation reimagine Sabrina “as a dark coming-of-age story that traffics in horror, the occult and, of course, witchcraft. Tonally in the vein of Rosemary’s Baby and The Exorcist, this adaptation finds Sabrina wrestling to reconcile her dual nature—half-witch, half-mortal—while standing against the evil forces that threaten her, her family and the daylight world humans inhabit.”

No word yet on who will play Sabrina, but an announcement is to be expected in the near future.

“I get called ‘Aunt Hilda’ every day and have since 1996, and I will answer to it happily,” Rhea added.

It’s been more than 2 decades since the series first premiered, and almost 15 years since it ended, but fans’ interest in the series never fades. In fact, The CW is preparing a reboot called The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina as a buddy series for its current Archie Comics property, Riverdale. Sadly, that means a proper Sabrina revival is not possible, considering Hart and her mother no longer own the rights to the character.

“I think we would do it in a heartbeat if we could,” Broderick shared. “We’re family. I was really excited just to come and see these girls.”

“If we could go back to the set tomorrow, I would do it,” Hart added.

Rhea confessed she’s “annoyed” a new version of Sabrina is coming to the small screen, admitting she fears for her character’s legacy, calling the show “a bummer.”

“If they make Aunt Hilda mean, and, like, psycho?” she said. “It’s, like, dark!”

According to Hart, The CW’s version will be a “more millennial soap opera,” so more like Buffy, the Vampire Slayer and less Bewitched, which Bakay dubs “bulls**t.” Moon Frye and Donovan also hope the reboot doesn’t stain the original series’ legacy.

“Our version was family friendly,” Donovan explained. “It’s magical, it’s female driven. Everybody can watch it. It’s smart and it’s witty, and I feel really good about that. I keep saying that, but I really mean it.”

“I think we all in the world need some magic right now,” Moon Frye agreed.

Creator Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa has only confirmed so far two original characters for the reboot, Sabrina and her love team, Harvey.

“I can’t wait to see it,” Richert shared. “It’s gonna be a completely different thing, and I can’t wait to see the twist and how it takes on its own life. I can’t wait to watch it.”

Richert would have a guest spot on The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, saying he would love to play into the darker world.

“I think I could be a scary murderer at this point,” he said, noting his bald head and goatee which is a big departure from his Harvey’s floppy long hair.

Broderick and Hart are open to joining the reboot, though Hart thinks it might be “weird.”

“Who am I going to play?” she wondered. “I don’t know … I played the aunts on the animated series, my sister played Sabrina, ’cause it was a prequel. So, I played the aunts on that with, like, you know, voices, but like, I don’t know. I guess, I guess. Never say never, but I’m not expecting it.”

“We just wish them well,” Broderick said. “Good luck. I hope it works out for them. We love the character, we love the show, we love the whole spirit of it, and I wish them well.”
