]]> After six decades in show business and six Golden Globe and Emmy wins under his belt, Alan Alda is getting ready to add another shiny statue to his collection. M*A*S*H star will be honored with the Life Achievement Award at this year’s Screen Actors Guild Awards ceremony.

This coveted award was first introduced in 1962 and it’s been given to performers who fostered the finest ideals of the acting profession. In addition to improving the image of the acting profession, individuals who received this honor usually had a history of active involvement in humanitarian and public service endeavors.

Alan Alda certainly fits that description, and SAG-AFTRA president Gabrielle Carteris said it’s an honor and a privilege to announce he’s the latest recipient of their Life Achievement Award.

“He is an artist whose body of work is a testament to the craft and the magic of our business. His ability to make us laugh, to think and to feel is extraordinary. From theater to television, movies, and new media Alan’s dedication and talent are exceeded only by his contributions to a just and caring society,” said Carteris.
