Sara Ramirez will be joining the series with Sarah Jessica Parker, Cynthia Nixon, and Kristin Davis, playing Che Diaz. According to the logline Diaz is “a non-binary, queer, stand-up comedian that hosts a podcast on which Carrie Bradshaw is regularly featured. Che is a big presence with a big heart whose outrageous sense of humor and progressive, human overview of gender roles has made them and their podcast very popular.”

Ramirez is best known for playing Callie Torres on Grey’s Anatomy and Kat Sandoval on Madam Secretary. They also won a Tony for Monty Python’s Spamalot.

The revival’s creator Michael Patrick King said in the casting announcement, “Everyone at ‘And Just Like That…’ is beyond thrilled that a dynamically talented actor such as Sara Ramírez has joined the ‘Sex and the City’ family. Sara is a one-of-a-kind talent, equally at home with comedy and drama – and we feel excited and inspired to create this new character for the show.”

Sex and the City ran from 1998 to 2004 and there were two films. The show centered around a group of four friends living in New York City.

HBO’s iconic series starring Sarah Jessica Parker, Kim Cattrall, Kristin Davis, and Cynthia Nixon is getting a follow-up series. According to Variety, Paramount Television has landed the rights to author Candace Bushnell’s upcoming novel Is There Still Sex in the City? 

The book, which delved into love and dating after 50, is set to be released on August 2019. Set between the Upper East Side of Manhattan and a country enclave known as The Village, the book looks at love and life, marriage and children, divorce and bereavement, as well as the very real pressures on women to maintain their youth and have it all.

“The original Sex and the City book and series served as a groundbreaking touchstone for an entire generation of women, myself included,” said president of Paramount TV Nicole Clemens. “We’re thrilled to be able to continue that conversation from the underrepresented point of view of women in their 50s and answer the question with, Yes! There is more sex in the city!”

Bushnell will penn the pilot and serve as exec producer on the project.

After recent drama concerning co-star Kim Cattrall’s comments about why she refuses to do a third SATC film, Parker told ET not to rule out anything yet.

Admitting that she was upset and even “heartbroken” to hear Cattrall’s comments last October, especially the one where she said she was never friends with her SATC co-stars Parker, Cynthia Nixon and Kristin Davis, Parker now gives fans hope.

“We’ve not had that specific conversation, but I mean, I think everybody’s inclined to consider it,” she said. “In all sincerity, there has not been a real post-it not happening. There’s really not been a substantive conversation. I think we all feel enormously lucky to have had the experience we had together — Kim, Kristin, Cynthia and myself,” she added. “hat’s been really meaningful to us. Whether we get to tell another chapter of that story, I don’t know. We’ll see.”

Will Sex and the City 3 happen? If it does, will is happen with Cattrall? Parker did joke about a Samantha stand-in with Andy Cohen. Cohen also brought up the possibility of Sharon Stone taking on the role of Samantha, to which Parker replied, “You’re not the first person that said it. I think it’s a really interesting idea, yeah.”

Sarah Jessica Parker put an official end to speculations over the series’ third movie installment saying that the film is officially a no-go. Replacing the speculations are now rumors over the cause for the never-going-to-happen third movie.

The Daily Mail reported that the movie is a no-go due to Kim Cattrall’s “demands” that Warner Bros. produce other movies she has in development, essentially putting a stop to the project. In response, Cattrall took to Twitter, writing that “the only ‘DEMAND’ I ever made was that I didn’t want to do a 3rd film….& that was back in 2016.”

“I hate to be a spoilsport, but what would the next story be? Cattrall asked during an interview with ET in January. “The reality of what [a third movie] would be-there’s nothing concrete. There’s no script, there’s no idea.”

However, according to Parker there was already a story and a script. The actress confirmed to Extra on Thursday saying “It’s over… we’re not doing it.  I’m disappointed. We had this beautiful, funny, heartbreaking, joyful, very relatable script and story. It’s not just disappointing that we don’t get to tell the story and have that experience, but more so for that audience that has been so vocal in wanting another movie.”

Kirstin Davies echoed Parker’s statements with a post on Facebook on Friday. It seems she was notably upset writing, “I haven’t quite gotten my mind around the fact that Charlotte will not continue on… So from the bottom of my heart, I am so grateful for the experience of being part of Sex and the City.”
