Shadow and Bone is the most prominent series to get an ax, considering its passionate fan base and the popular source material. It will come to an end after two seasons, and the author of Grishaverse novels which served as inspiration for this series, Leigh Bardugo, addressed its cancelation on social media.

“I’m heartbroken and deeply disappointed, but I’m also trying to hold on to my very real gratitude. Most authors never get to see their work adapted. Many who do end up regretting the experience. I’m one of the very few who can look at an adaptation with pride and tremendous joy,” she wrote on Instagram.

Netflix also axed the comedy series Glamorous, which premiered on this streaming service back in June. It centered on a young makeup enthusiast who’s hired to be the assistant of a former supermodel and beauty mogul, and it starred Kim Cattrall and Miss Benny in the lead roles.

Several adult animated comedies also won’t live to see another day following Netflix’s latest cancelation streak, including Agent Elvis, Farzar, and Captain Fall, all canceled after a single season.

Based on Leigh Bardugo’s best selling fantasy novels, the eight part series is set to star Ben Barnes (Westworld) as General Kirigan, Freddy Carter (Pennyworth) as Kaz Brekker , Jessie Mei Li (Last Night in SoHo) as Alina Starkov, Archie Renaux (Voyagers) as Malyen Oretsev, Amita Suman (The Outpost) as Inej, and Kit Young (Endeavour) as Jesper Fahey. 

“I was so wary going into this process because these characters have lived in my head for so long,” Bardugo explained. “Turns out I had nothing to fear. Watching these actors begin to inhabit these roles has been pure magic,” she added. 

The eight part adaptation is Bird Box scribe Eric Heisserer. Bardugo will also serve as executive producer.
