]]>Three of the previous recipients – Stephen Colbert, Jerry Seinfeld, and Tina Fey – showed up to pay tribute to this incredible actress, but they weren’t the only comedy stars in attendance. Bryan Cranston, Lisa Kudrow, Tony Hale, and Kumail Nanjiani also made an appearance during the heartfelt and hilarious ceremony.
Most of the artists on hand previously starred alongside Louis-Dreyfus in one of the projects from her impressive resume. They took a look back at her illustrious career and delivered a bunch of hilarious remarks about this celebrated comedy legend.
Julia Louis-Dreyfus rose to prominence back in the ‘80s, as one of the cast members of Saturday Night Live. She became a household name thanks to the role of Elaine Benes in the cult sitcom Seinfeld. Her career entered a new stage when she was cast in HBO’s political satire Veep – a TV show that brought her six Emmy wins in acting categories and another three for producing the series.

]]>Showtime is getting right down and animated with its 10, half-hour episodes about POTUS. The series chronicles the “tru-ish misadventures” of Donald Trump. With his family and advisors beside him, viewers get a behind-the-scenes look at the life of the President.
The show “examines the quintessentially Trumpian details of the presidency and his most important relationships, and no one is safe – from his close family and confidants to key political figures from both parties and members of the media,” the network said.
The series that will deconstruct White House life under the 45th President of the United States was inspired by Trump’s character on Colbert’s Late Show.
Serving alongside Colbert as executive producer is Late Show executive producer Chris Licht who will also serve as the series’ show runner.

]]>Interestingly, readers weren’t the only ones to find Conan’s tribute touching. Apparently Letterman himself was moved by the piece, as O’Brien revealed on Stephen Colbert’s show on Friday night. He told the host of the gift Letterman sent him at the studio lot. O’Brien speculated that is was a vintage Porsche, however, as the massive truck pulled up after barely making it through the gate, he realized that he couldn’t have gotten it more wrong. In fact, Letterman gifted him a horse.
“Look at the expression on my face,” O’Brien said after Colbert showed a photo of him atop the horse. “That’s a man who doesn’t know what to do with a horse. Turns out, I look into it, you’ve got to feed them, you’ve got to board them, you’ve got to treat them humanely. Everyone I tell says, ‘It’s from David Letterman!’ Oh, and guess what the horse’s name is? Dave!”
O’Brien kept the horse for two years but with costs mounting, his wife found a rather curious solution to the problem: they donated the horse to an equine massage center.

]]>Hulu’s The Handmaid’s Tale and HBO’s Big Little Lies are tied for most wins with five awards each, followed by Saturday Night Live with four including Outstanding Variety Sketch Series. Veep took home the Outstanding Comedy Series award for third consecutive year, and Julia Louis-Dreyfus made Emmy history for winning the Lead Actress in a Comedy Series for sixth straight year in a row.
Donald Glover, the creator of FX series Atlanta, also made history as the first black director to win the award for Outstanding Directing for a Comedy Series and later in the night, he won his second Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series.
Nicole Kidman, who earned her first Emmy, delivered a strong message about domestic abuse during her acceptance speech for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Limited Series or Movie.
“.. I want them to know that sometimes when you’re acting, you get a chance to bring a bigger message, and this is their contribution and your contribution,” she said. “We shone a light on domestic abuse. It is a complicated, insidious disease. It exists far more than we allow ourselves to know. It is filled with shame and secrecy and by you acknowledging me with this award, it shines a light on it even more. So thank you, thank you, thank you. I bow down to you.”
