26.6 billion global streams pushed Swift to the top of Spotify’s list of the most-streamed artists of the year for a second year in a row. Her latest album The Tortured Poets Department was named the most-streamed album of the year on the list of the most-streamed albums, where female artists made history, occupying the first eight spots.
It’s also been a huge year for The Weeknd, Bad Bunny, Drake, and Billie Eilish, who managed to make it to the list of the most-streamed artists behind Swift. Eilish also scored the year’s second with Hit Me Hard and Soft, ahead of Short n’ Sweet by Sabrina Carpenter, Mañana Será Bonito by Karol G, and Eternal Sunshine by Ariana Grande.
As for the list of the most-streamed songs, it was Sabrina Carpenter’s moment to shine in the spotlight. She led the way with her smash hit “Espresso”, beating the tough competition in “Beautiful Things” by Benson Boone, “Birds of a Feather” by Billie Eilish, “Gata Only” by FloyyMenor and Cris MJ, and “Lose Control” by Teddy Swims.

Swift walked away with three individual awards at this ceremony, including the best artist of the year, best live performance, and best US act. She also picked up the award for the best video for “Fortnight” ft. Post Malone, beating the likes of Ariana Grande, Eminem, and Charli XCX.
Despite her domination at this ceremony, Swift wasn’t one of the nominees for the coveted best song award. Ariana Grande’s “We Can’t Be Friends (Wait for Your Love)”, Benson Boone’s “Beautiful Things”, Beyoncé’s “Texas Hold ‘Em”, Billie Eilish’s “Birds of a Feather”, and Chappell Roan’s “Good Luck, Babe!” made the cut, and the award eventually went to Sabrina Carpenter’s “Espresso”.
Lisa and Rosalía pulled a major upset in the best collaboration category with their duet “New Woman”. The list of smash hits they managed to beat included “Fortnight” by Swift and Post Malone, “Die with a Smile” by Lady Gaga and Bruno Mars, and “Guess” by Charli XCX and Billie Eilish.
The 2024 MTV Europe Music Awards were held at the Co-op Live in Manchester, United Kingdom on November 10, with Rita Ora serving as a host.

Despite holding the record for most Grammys ever won with 32 awards, Beyoncé was never honored with the coveted album of the year trophy. She’ll get another chance to right that wrong next year with Cowboy Carter, competing against the likes of Taylor Swift, Sabrina Carpenter, Chappell Roan, and Billie Eilish.
Beyoncé is also vying for song and record of the year with her hit single “Texas Hold ‘Em”. The list of contenders in both categories also includes “Birds of a Feather” by Billie Eilish, “Fortnight” by Taylor Swift and Post Malone, “Good Luck Babe” by Chappell Roan, “Not Like Us” by Kendrick Lamar.
Chappell Roan and Sabrina Carpenter are the only artists nominated for the “big four” Grammys. In addition to scoring a nod for album, song, and record of the year, they’re also contenders for the best new artist award alongside Benson Boone, Raye, Shaboozey, and more.
The 2025 Grammy Awards will return to the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles on February 2, 2025.

The list of contenders for the video of the year also included Ariana Grande’s “We Can’t Be Friends (Wait for Your Love)”, Billie Eilish’s “Lunch”, Doja Cat’s “Paint the Town Red”, Eminem’s “Houdini”, SZA’s “Snooze”, but they couldn’t stand their ground to “Fortnight”.
This chart-topping hit came out victorious in several more categories, including best collaboration, song of the summer, best editing, and best direction, while Swift herself won awards for the artist of the year and best pop.
Despite dominating this year’s MTV VMAs, “Fortnight” failed to win the coveted song of the year award. Sabrina Carpenter dominated this category with “Espresso”, beating tough competition in Beyoncé’s “Texas Hold ‘Em”, Jack Harlow’s “Lovin on Me”, Kendrick Lamar’s “Not Like Us”, and Teddy Swims’ “Lose Control”.
The 2024 MTV VMAs took place at the UBS Arena in Elmont, New York, on September 11. Megan Thee Stallion hosted the ceremony, while Katy Perry was honored with the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award.

]]>With 115,000 equivalent album units earned during its latest week on the chart, Tortured Poets easily returned to No. 1. Gracie Abrams’ sophomore album The Secret of Us was the only real competition it faced this week, with 89,000 equivalent album units earned.
Swift previously managed to spend at least ten weeks atop the Billboard 200 with 1989 and Fearless, and this number is quite impressive. She joins Whitney Houston, The Beatles, Elvis Presley, and The Kingston Trio as only the fifth act to have at least three albums with ten weeks at No. 1 and the first to do so this century.
The Tortured Poets Department and its companion piece The Anthology both hit the shelves on April 19, along with the music video for the lead single “Fortnight” ft. Post Malone. Swift later released several limited-edition variants featuring acoustic covers, demons, and other versions of the songs, which boosted its sales in the weeks to come.
]]>Swift is no stranger to a good breakup album, and many of her previous releases inspired fan theories and wild speculations. That was also the case with The Tortured Poets Department, and many expected it to be inspired by the fallout of her long-term relations with Joe Alwyn, but Swift has given us something else entirely.
The album’s first track, the Post Malone collaboration “Fortnight”, chronicles a brief but powerful relationship that was always doomed to fail, and the rest of Tortured Poets follows a similar formula.
Instead of focusing on a single relationship, Swift explores heartbreak in all its messy stages, walking a fine line between viciousness and vulnerability. Tortured Poets is at its strongest when Swift is ready to bear her soul, and that’s why “So Long, London” stands out as one of its most powerful tracks.
Like many of the best songs on this album and its companion piece The Tortured Poets Department: The Anthology, this song is produced by Aaron Dessner and not the album’s main producer Jack Antonoff. They had a pretty fruitful creative partnership for years, but Antonoff’s synth-pop tendencies don’t seem to be doing much for Swift’s sound anymore.
This is one of the biggest problems with Tortured Poets, which often sounds like an echo of her previous albums while lacking their best qualities. It has the vindictiveness of Reputation (“The Smallest Man Who Ever Lived”), the synth-pop sound of Midnights (“My Boy Only Breaks His Favorite Toys”), storytelling strengths of Folklore and Evermore (“Clara Bow”), while still failing to measure up to any of them.
Like most of Swift’s recent albums, Tortured Poets will top the charts, break a few records – maybe even win a Grammy or two. That doesn’t change the fact it’s one of her messiest outputs in recent memory, but it’s fun to see she’s not afraid to step on the dark side, now that she’s got nothing to lose.
Swift topped the list of iHeartRadio Music Awards nominees with nine nods, and she lived up to the high expectations. She walked away with six accolades, including the coveted artist of the year award, beating the likes of SZA, Miley Cyrus, Olivia Rodrigo, and Drake.
She was also named pop artist of the year, in addition to winning four more awards for best lyrics with “Is It Over Now?”, TikTok Bop of the year with “Cruel Summer”, tour of the year, and favorite tour style for The Eras Tour.
As for SZA, she collected one of the ceremony’s shiniest trophies with her viral hit “Kill Bill” – the coveted song of the year. She also dominated the R&B field, winning R&B artist of the year, R&B album of the year with SOS, and R&B song of the year with “Snooze”.
The 2024 iHeartRadio Music Awards took place at Los Angeles’ iconic Dolby Theatre on April 1, with Ludacris hosting the festivities.

Layover – V
Vampire Weekend’s new album Only God Was Above Us has been five years in the making, and judging by what we’ve heard so far – it was worth waiting for.
Taylor Swift broke the internet when she announced the release of The Tortured Poets Department at the Grammys before sharing its 16-song tracklist, featuring A-list collabs with Post Malone and Florence and the Machine.
Rising star Benson Boone topped the charts around the world with his breakout hit “Beautiful Things”, and we can’t wait to hear what his debut album has in store.
Anitta is getting ready to go back to her Brazilian funk roots on her next album, and she gave us a taste of things to come with singles “Funk Rave”, “Mil Veces”, and “Joga pra Lua”.
Some of our favorite indie girls are gearing up for the release of new music this April, but St. Vincent’s All Born Screaming is definitely the most-anticipated new alternative release.

Barbie came into the night with eight nominations and managed to take five trophies home. In addition to being named the movie of the year, it also won awards for the comedy movie of the year, the male and female movie star of the year (Ryan Gosling and Margot Robbie), and the movie performance of the year (America Ferrera).
As for Taylor Swift, she conquered the music field with four wins, starting with the female artist of the year. She was also named the pop artist of the year and the social celebrity of the year, in addition to winning the award for the concert tour of the year with The Eras Tour.
There were no clear leaders in the TV categories, and The Kardashians, The Last of Us, and Only Murders in the Building were the only shows to walk away with two awards. Grey’s Anatomy was also among the top winners, and it defeated tough competition to be named the show of the year.
The People’s Choice Awards returned to the Barker Hangar in Santa Monica, California on February 18, with Simu Liu serving as a host.

Swift defeated tough competition in the likes of SZA’s SOS, Boygenius’ The Record, and Olivia Rodrigo’s Guts to win album of the year, and she found a special way to thank her fans.
“I want to say thank you to the fans by telling you a secret that I have been keeping from you for the last two years, which is that my brand-new album comes out April 19. It’s called The Tortured Poets Department. I’m going to go and post the cover right now backstage,” said Swift.
Miley Cyrus’ “Flowers” was crowned record of the year, beating Swift’s “Anti-Hero”, SZA’s “Kill Bill”, and Olivia Rodrigo’s “Vampire”. This song failed to repeat its success in the song of the year field, where Billie Eilish’s “What Was I Made For?” came out victorious. It was also a big night for Victoria Monét, who collected the best new artist award.
Phoebe Bridgers was the ceremony’s top winner with four accolades, including three with Boygenius. SZA, Victoria Monét, and Killer Mike also walked away with three trophies.
The 2024 Grammy Awards took place at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles on February 4, with Trevor Noah hosting the show.
