]]>The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes was released on November 17 and earned $100.8 million globally during its opening weekend. This was the lowest start for The Hunger Games franchise and the critical reviews were pretty mixed, but that didn’t stop this prequel from topping the box office for two weeks in a row.
After only 11 days in theatres, The Ballad of Songbirds & Snake managed to earn $200 million globally, including 100.5 million in North America alone. It’s Lionsgate’s second film to do so this year, following the success of John Wick: Chapter 4, which crossed the $200 million mark in just eight days.
The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes takes place during the tenth annual Hunger Games and centers on the young Coriolanus Snow, who went on to become the tyrannical president of Panem. Tom Blyth and Rachel Zegler lead the film’s star-studded cast, alongside Peter Dinklage, Jason Schwartzman, Hunter Schafer, Josh Andrés Rivera, and Viola Davis.
