In a recent interview with Variety, Kate Beckinsale, who portrays the lead role of vampire Selena in the film series, ruled out the possibility of making another sequel.

“I wouldn’t return. I’ve done plenty of those,” said Beckinsale after being asked whether she would make more Underworld movie.

This comes as an unpleasant surprise for the fans of the franchise, especially since Len Wiseman, who has directed the first two movies, said in 2017 that there were plans for a sequel and that Kate Beckinsale is on board for the next installment.

Now, the fact that Beckinsale is out doesn’t mean that there won’t be another movie out in the future. But you can bet that it won’t be the same without her and that we’ll have to wait at least several more years to get it.

Underworld film series earned a combined $539 million at the box office, with 2012’s Underworld: Awakening being the top earner with $160 million. An animated film, titled Underworld: Endless War, was also released in 2011. Finally, there were reports about Underworld TV series being in works in 2016, but there was no new info about this projects after that.
