Taika Waititi to Direct and Co-Write New “Star Wars” Movie

Taika Waititi is the confirmed helmer and co-writer of a new Star Wars film. 

News that Waititi will direct from a script co-written by himself and 1917’s co-scribe Krysty Wilson-Cairns was announced by Disney and Lucasfilm on Monday.

Per Variety, it is unclear if Waititi’s film is one of Disney’s previously annoneced three untitled Star Wars movies dated for December 2022, 2024 and 2026, or if it’s a separate project.

Waititi is the Oscar-winning writer-director of Jojo Rabbit. He also directed the season finale of the hit Disney+ Star Wars series The Mandalorian.

Waititi is next set to direct Thor: Love and Thunder for Disney’s Marvel Studios.
