Tamar Braxton Opens Up About Forgiving Her Father for Cheating On Her Mother in Her New Single ‘My Man’

Tamar Braxton talks about her new single, “My Man”, which narrates the betrayal that led to an emotional marriage breakup, but she isn’t telling her own story. Instead, she gets the inspiration from her parents’ divorce.

The happily married singer opened up to Hip Hollywood how she forgave her father, Michael Conrad Braxton Sr., for cheating on her mother, Evelyn Braxton.

“You have to realize it is not your relationship,” the 40-year-old singer said of maintaining a good relationship with her father. “And it doesn’t have anything to do with you. It’s not your business. Although you are the product of the relationship, it’s not your relationship.”

She even previewed “My Man” to her dad, and he loved it.

“Listen, I was I not going to put out this record without letting my parents hear it first,” Tamar shared. “So I played it for my dad and his reaction was a little different. He was actually a little flattered. He was like, ‘You wrote a song about me?’ without listening, listening to the lyrics. I’m sure now he’s probably thinking differently.”

The Braxton sisters, Tamar, Toni, Towanda, Traci and Trina, have been open about their family struggles, even sharing some difficult moments on camera for their reality show.

The latest season of Braxton Family Values airs Thursday at 9 p.m. ET/PT on WE tv.
