It’s time to get your meow on!
Variety has confirmed that Taylor Swift, James Corden and Jennifer Hudson have been cast in the upcoming movie version of the musical Cats. Also cast is Tony Award winner and Oscar nominee Sir Ian McKellen.
The Andrew Lloyd Webber ultra hit Broadway musical is coming to the big screen and will be directed by Tom Hooper (Les Misérables). The screenplay was penned by Lee Hall (Bily Elliot) and was based on Lloyd Webber’s musical.
While Swift and Corden’s roles have yet to be confirmed, it is known that Hudson will play the classic role of Grizabella, the former “glamour cat,” which means she’s also going to be the one who gets to belt out the famous ballad, “Memory.” This isn’t Hudson’s first movie musical; she proved she’s got the pipes in the 2006 Dreamgirls feature.
Cats is one of the most successful musicals in history, adapted by Lloyd Weber from a book of children’s poems by T.S. Eliot.
