Taylor Swift to Open the 2018 American Music Awards

Taylor Swift will open the 2018 American Music Awards.

The news was announced on Tuesday on ABC’s Good Morning America. This will be the singer’s first awards show performance in nearly three years.

In the pre-taped announcement, she said, “Good Morning, America. It’s Taylor. I just wanted to say I’m going to be opening up the American Music Awards with a performance.”  Swift’s cat Meredith wasn’t too excited, stepping out of the frame mid-announcement. “Don’t get too excited about it,” Swift added. “My, God.”

GMA‘s Michael Strahan joked, “It looks like the cast doesn’t care about Taylor Swift performing at the American Music Awards, but we do, of course. It’s very exciting.”

Dick Clark Productions says the 28-year-old will sing “I Did Something Bad.”

It’s going to be a big night for Swift as she is also nominated in four categories this year: Artist of the Year, Favorite Pop/Rock Female Artist, Favorite Pop/Rock Album (Reputation) and Tour of the Year (Reputation Stadium Tour).

Tracee Ellis Ross will host the show that will air on ABC on October 9, live from LA’s Microsoft Theater.
