The wait for the WGA Awards was pretty long after the ceremony was delayed in the face of the writers’ strike, but the list of winners is finally here. The Holdovers and American Fiction led the way in the movie categories, while Succession, The Bear, and Beef won big in the TV field.
The Holdovers failed to take the prize for the best original screenplay at the Academy Awards, but it had better luck at the WGA Awards. It defeated tough competition in Air, Barbie, May December, and Past Lives to win the trophy for the best original screenplay.
Cord Jefferson’s American Fiction collected a trophy for the best adapted screenplay, after coming out victorious in the same category at the Oscars. The list of contenders in this field also included Are You There God? It’s Me, Margaret, Killers of the Flower Moon, Nyad, and Oppenheimer.
As for the winners in the TV categories, things were pretty easy to predict this time around. The final season of Succession collected another trophy for the best drama series, The Bear won the best comedy series award, while Beef was named the best limited series.
The WGA Awards were held on April 14, after their date was moved by several months due to last year’s writers’ strike.
