Deadline recently reported that Amazon has cast Maxim Baldry as a new lead in The Lord of Rings TV series.

The official casting announcement was made back in January and at the time, Baldry hadn’t officially signed onto the project. But, there were rumors that he was going to be a lead in the show.

“We still have a few key roles to cast,” Amazon Co-head of TV Vernon Sanders said in the announcement.

Baldy will be joining Robert Aramayo, Owain Arthur, Nazanin Boniadi, Tom Budge, Morfydd Clark, Ismael Cruz Córdova, Ema Horvath, Markella Kavenagh, Joseph Mawle, Tyroe Muhafidin, Sophia Nomvete, Megan Richards, Dylan Smith, Charlie Vickers, and Daniel Weyman.

The British actor just wrapped up his role as Viktor in the BBC-HBO limited series Years and Years and he’s also known for appearing in the shows Doctor Who and Strike Back and well as the film Last Christmas.

Although production hasn’t started for the first season of The Lord of the Rings series, it’s already been renewed for a second season.
