The Nanny is heading to the Broadway stage.
Multiple outlets confirm that the hit ’90s sitcom The Nanny is getting a Broadway musical makeover.
The series starred Fran Drescher as a cosmetics saleswoman fired from her job and dumped by her boyfriend. After being let go, she takes a new job looking after the three children of a rich English Broadway producer and widower.
Drescher has teamed with original series co-creator Peter Marc Jacobson to write the book, while Rachel Bloom is set to write the lyrics and co-write the music with Adam Schlesinger. Beautiful: The Carole King Musical’s Marc Bruni will direct.
“We are SO excited to be working on the Broadway musical The Nanny,” Drescher and Jacobson said in a joint statement. “Nobody is cast yet — we’re plotting — but we feel confident we will find a fabulous actress who is funny, charming and has a great voice,” they added.
