Tiger King became an overnight success worldwide and one of the most popular television series of the year. Fans couldn’t get enough of the real-life drama between Joe Exotic and Carole Baskin and less than a month after the series premiered on Netflix, a special was released with Joe McHale catching up with the cast.

The latest Tiger King News is quite exciting as it’s being turned into an eight-episode scripted series with Nicolas Cage set to play Joe Exotic! The series will be based on the Texas Monthly article, “Joe Exotic: A Dark Journey Into the World of a Man Gone Wild,” by Leif Reigstad and it will tell the story of Joe Schreibvogel, a.k.a. Joe Exotic, an eccentric exotic zookeeper in Oklahoma who tries to keep his park, while losing his own sanity. It’s also going to explore how Joe Exotic became the character he is today and how he got wrapped up in the persona.

The series will be Cage’s first regular television role as he’s known for his roles in films including Leaving Las Vegas, Moonstruck, Raising Arizona, Face/Off, the National Treasure films, and the Ghost Rider films.

This will be the second scripted series about Tiger King as the first was announced late last year and it’s based on the Wondery podcast “Joe Exotic.” Kate McKinnon will executive produce and star as Carole Baskin.
