Tribeca Film Festival to Open With “Jimmy Carter Rock & Roll President”

The 19th edition of the Tribeca Film Festival will open with the world premiere of the documentary Jimmy Carter Rock & Roll President. 

Billed as a rockumentary-style presidential portrait, the Jimmy Carter docu explored how music became key to his political appeal, allowed him to connect with voters. and eventually helped him get elected. 

Jimmy Carter Rock & Roll President was directed by Mary Wharton and written by Bill Flanagan.

“The film accurately captures my love for all music and the importance music has played in my personal and professional life. I remain hopeful and believe that music can serve to bring us together as a nation,” Carter said in a statement. “Rosalynn and I are pleased with the fine film Mary and Chris have made and thank all those involved for telling this story. We are thrilled that it will debut at the Tribeca Film Festival.”

The premiere event will take place on April 15 at New York’s Beacon Theatre and will be followed by live performances from Nelson, Paul Shaffer, and others.
