Peggy Lipton, best known for her roles on groundbreaking TV shows The Mod Squad and Twin Peaks, passed away at the age of 72.

Rashida and Kidada Jones, her daughters from previous marriage with Quincy Jones, announced the tragic news. Lipton was diagnosed with colon cancer in 2004, and spent many years battling this disease.

“We are heartbroken that our beloved mother passed away from cancer today. She made her journey peacefully with her daughters and nieces by her side. We feel so lucky for every moment we spent with her,” read the official statement released by Lipton’s daughter.

Peggy Lipton gave showbiz a try when she was fifteen years old. Her modeling career quickly took off, and it didn’t take her long to sign a deal with Universal Pictures. After landing a couple of supporting movie roles and guest spots on TV, Lipton joined ABC’s crime drama The Mod Squad.

This series transformed her into an overnight sensation, and she went on to win a Golden Globe for her portrayal of Julie Barnes. Lipton later joined David Lynch’s cult show Twin Peaks, and its 2017 revival is her last TV credit.

She received numerous award nominations over the course of her five-decade long career.
