(Spoiler alert!) With Kevin (Justin Hatrley) pulled over for a DUI with his niece Tess (Eris Baker) hiding out in the backseat, This Is Us fans were left to eagerly await the return of the Pearsons to their screens. However, after having promised that the midseason premiere of the series’ second season would take place on January 2, NBC announced it is delaying the premiere date.

Luckily, even with the delay, fans of the show won’t have to wait that much longer between the fall finale and the midseason premiere. EW reports that NBC confirmed that the hit family drama will begin airing the remaining 8 episodes in season 2 on January 9.

According to an insider, the delay leaves time for the series to air more consecutive episodes leading up to the Olympics.

This Is Us creator Dan Fogelman told Deadline that the Jack’s (Milo Ventimiglia) death will be taking place in season 2. He said it will be “heartbreaking surprise” for fans of the show. With just 8 episodes to go, it seems that fans will finally get to know how Jack dies, pretty soon.
