Val Kilmer Joins Tom Cruise in “Top Gun: Maverick”

It’s official! Val Kilmer confirmed to return as Iceman in Top Gun: Maverick. 

The 58-year-old actor will reprise his iconic role as Tom “Iceman” Karzansky in the sequel of the 1986 classic Top Gun. Kilmer will be starring opposite Tom Cruise who is reprising his character Pete “Maverick” Mitchell.

Cruise has confirmed that production has begun on the sequel, tweeting a photo from day one of production. The picture shows Cruise’s character in uniform with the words “Feel the need” over the image, a reference to one of the most famous lines from the original film.

The sequel was given an official fo last year with Cruise telling the hosts of Australia’s Sunrise morning show. “You know what? I’m going to start filming it probably in the next year. It’s happening. It is definitely happening.”

Set in present day, the new movie will follow the fighter pilot duo as they battle with drone tech that is making their old style of flying obsolete. 

Top Gun: Maverick is set to hit theaters on July 12, 2019.
