Val Kilmer is opening up about his health after months of denying that he was suffering from serious health issues, ET reports.
In a Reddit AMA (Ask Me Anything) interview on Wednesday, the Kiss Kiss Bang Bang star responded to a question about Michael Douglas claiming that he was battling oral cancer.
“A while ago, Michael Douglas claimed you had terminal cancer,” a user asked. “What was the story behind that?”
“He was probably trying to help me cause press probably asked where I was these days, and I did have a healing of cancer, but my tongue is still swollen altho healing all the time,” the 57-year-old actor answered. “Because I don’t sound my normal self yet people think I may still be under the weather.”
Douglas who battled oral cancer in 2011 and defeated the illness in 2013, said in October that Kilmer has been diagnosed with tongue cancer, according to People.
“Val was a wonderful guy who is dealing with exactly what I had, and things don’t look to good for him,” Douglas said about his Ghost and the Darkness co-star. “My prayers are with him. That’s why you haven’t heard too much from Val lately.”
Kilmer quickly addressed the claim on his Facebook page, saying he has “no cancer whatsoever” and hadn’t spoken to Douglas in almost two years.
“I love Michael Douglas but he is misinformed,” the actor wrote. “The last time I spoke to him was almost two years ago, when I asked him for a referral for a specialist to get a diagnosis for a lump in my throat, which prevented me from continuing a tour of my play CITIZEN TWAIN. I ended up using a team at UCLA and have no cancer whatsoever.”
People reports that in October 2015, Kilmer firmly denied that he had a tumor after being seen at UCLA Medical Center. Few months later, he was spotted with what seemed to be a tracheostomy tube around his neck. He was also seen on several occasions covering his neck with bandanas and scarves.
He has since returned to his Citizen Twain tour, but he’s still struggling to speak. He told People in March that he’s “doing great.”
