After becoming a bona fide Broadway hit and winning numerous Tony Awards, Dear Evan Hansen is finally coming to the big screen. The first trailer for this star-studded musical is finally here, and it sees Ben Platt returning to the titular role.
According to the official logline, Dear Evan Hansen centers on “an anxious, isolated high schooler aching for understanding and belonging amid the chaos and cruelty of the social-media age.”
Platt played the role of Evan Hansen when this acclaimed musical premiered on Broadway back in 2016 and even won a Tony for his performance. He’ll be in pretty good company in the movie version of Dear Evan Hansen, with Kaitlyn Dever, Amandla Stenberg, Nik Dodani, Julianne Moore, and Amy Adams rounding out the cast.
The highly-anticipated musical was directed by Stephen Chbosky, whose previous credits include The Perks of Being a Wallflower and Wonder. The writer of the original musical, Steven Levenson, returned to write the script for its movie version. Dear Evan Hansen is set to be released theatrically on September 24th by Universal Pictures.
