Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart went down in history as one of the most iconic composers of all time, and his new biopic is on the way. The White Lotus star Will Sharpe will star in Sky’s new series inspired by the life and times of the timeless music icon.

Based on Peter Shaffer’s stage play Amadeus, this series will be “fresh, intimate and irreverent, and will feel at times in the hands of the characters themselves”, according to Sky’s official logline. It will take place in 18th-century Vienna and explore the complex relationship between Mozart and his future wife Constanze.

After arriving in Vienna determined to carve his own path, the 25-year-old Mozart finds an unlikely ally in a young singer Constanze Weber Mozart. Her connections bring him into the orbit of the court composer Antonio Salieri, who’ll help him define his life and legacy.

This series hails from Joe Barton, who previously collaborated with Sharpe on Giri/Haji. Julian Farino is coming on board as a director, while Two Cities Television will produce alongside Sky Studios.

Will Sharpe is fresh off earning his first Emmy nod for his breakout role in HBO’s anthology series The White Lotus, and he’ll next appear in Lena Dunham’s Netflix rom-com Too Much alongside Megan Stalter.
