We can always count on the British Academy Film Awards to make some interesting choices with their nominations, and they didn’t disappoint this year. The list of nominees for the 2025 BAFTA Awards is in, and the Papal thriller Conclave emerged as the top contender with 12 nominations.

Conclave is one of the main contenders for the coveted best film award, but it will have to beat some tough competition to take the trophy home. The list of nominees in this category also includes Anora, The Brutalist, A Complete Unknown, and Emilia Pérez. It’s also in the running for the outstanding British film, along with Bird, Blitz, Gladiator 2, and Hard Truths, among others.

Conclave earned its stars Ralph Fiennes and Isabella Rossellini acting nominations in their respective fields. Its director Edward Berger and writer Peter Straughan have also been nominated for their work on this film, which received nods in several creative categories, including casting, editing, and costume design.

The crime musical Emilia Pérez is the runner-up with a total of 11 nominations, while The Brutalist managed to score nine nods. Anora, Dune: Part Two, and Wicked are right behind with seven nominations each.

The 2025 BAFTA Awards will take place on February 16 at the Royal Festival Hall in London, with David Tennant hosting for the second year in a row.
