Expectations are running high for Christopher Nolan’s next film following the enormous success of Oppenheimer, and he’s ready to go back to work. The visionary director set a 2026 release date for his next project, with Matt Damon circling the lead role.

Nolan is one of Hollywood’s most secretive directors, and not much is known about the plot of his next film – but we know when we’ll get to see it on the big screen. Universal Pictures will release it on July 17, 2026, and the production will most likely kick off in early 2025.

Rumor has it that this project will reunite Nolan with Matt Damon, who was a part of the star-studded cast of Oppenheimer. Cillian Murphy and Robert Downey Jr. both won Oscars for their performances in this historical epic, while the A-list cast also included Emily Blunt, Florence Pugh, Josh Hartnett, Casey Affleck, Rami Malek, and Kenneth Branagh, in addition to Damon.

Oppenheimer became a true cultural phenomenon and one of the highlights of Nolan’s career following its release last summer. It earned $977 million worldwide, becoming the third-highest-grossing film of 2023, and went on to win seven Oscars, including best picture and best director for Nolan.
